The “Spider-Man” film franchise has been wildly erratic, yet amazingly indestructible, across over two decades of web-slinging, rebooting, reversals of fortune, immersions into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and periodic reappearances by the Spidey-hating J. Jonah Jameson.

With its clever blend of redemptive evolutions, many Easter Eggs, emotional effects, state-of-the-art special effects — and sly hints at a back-to-basics approach in future flicks, “Spider-Man: No Way Home ” stoke even more passion for the series. Given below are all the Spiderman movies ranked by critics from least to best:

Table of Contents
  • 1. Venom (2018) —Critics Score: 30%:
  • 2. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) — Critics Score: 52%:
  • 3. Spider-Man 3 (2007) — Critics Score: 63%:
  • 4. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) — Critics Score: 72%:
  • 5. Spider-Man (2002) — Critics Score: 90%:
  • 6. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) — Critics Score: 90%:
  • 7. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) — Critics Score: 92%:
  • 8. Spider-Man 2 (2004) — Critics Score: 93%:
  • 9. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) — Critics Score: 94%
  • 10. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) — Critics Score: 97%

1. Venom (2018) —Critics Score: 30%:

“Venom” is a one-of-a-kind film in the “Spider-Man” franchise, focusing on a well-known comic book villain. Tom Hardy plays the lead role in it. However, most reviews panned the spin-off, calling it a “tone-deaf, inconsistent, and maddeningly dumb clunker,” despite the fact that audiences were more lenient.

2. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) — Critics Score: 52%:

This sequel, starring Andrew Garfield as Spiderman, never quite lived up to the earlier “Spider-Man” films. The film was panned by critics for being “overstuffed with the storyline” and a “bloated and dulled” drama.

Jamie Foxx’s odd, botched performance as Electro drew a lot of criticism from critics. Despite this, some people commended the film’s action scenes for their quality.

3. Spider-Man 3 (2007) — Critics Score: 63%:

It’s astonishing to observe how easily filmmaker Sam Raimi’s three Spider-Man films flow into one another when you see them all back-to-back. Unfortunately, Tobey Maguire’s brooding web-slinger wobbled between cocky swagger and angry wrath while confronting an indifferently conceived supervillain and his own Venom-fueled dark side in this underwhelming threequel.

While the “Bad” Peter Parker tried to swagger and smooth-move like someone suffering from “Saturday Night Fever,” even staunch Spider-fans couldn’t help but guffaw.

The ambition of director Sam Raimi and the character connections in the picture was praised by critics, but even the good reviews noted that the film was “uneven.”

4. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) — Critics Score: 72%:

This 2012 reboot of the “Spider-Man” franchise featured major stars, including Garfield and Emma Stone. With the exception of a few critics who gave the picture a cold shoulder, reviews praised Garfield and Stone’s on-screen chemistry.

5. Spider-Man (2002) — Critics Score: 90%:

Director Sam Raimi’s take on the legendary Marvel hero got rave reviews for this Spidey-centric film starring Maguire. Critics adored this film, praising it for masterfully mixing action and humor. This picture helped moviegoers prepare for nearly two decades of “Spider-Man” films, from its humorous sensibility to Maguire’s “earnest, unadorned delivery.”

6. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) — Critics Score: 90%:

Mysterio continues the MCU trend of gradually transforming Spider-Man from a solo superhero who relies on his own grit and brains to an underachieving team player who must don an Iron-Man-like outfit before he can fight the good fight, with some charming give-and-take between Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Zendaya’s MJ Jones.

The cast’s chemistry and the film’s exciting premise impressed most critics, however, others considered it a mediocre entry into the MCU.

7. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) — Critics Score: 92%:

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” had the advantage of being a standalone “Spider-Man” adventure that did more than just retell the hero’s origin narrative. It was considered “the best ‘Spider-Man’ movie of the series” by several reviews, and Holland was hailed for his near-perfect portrayal of Peter Parker.

8. Spider-Man 2 (2004) — Critics Score: 93%:

In their first sequel to the breakthrough 2002 franchise premiere, director Sam Raimi and original Gangsta Spidey Tobey Maguire struck lightning a second time. Although it may be difficult to appreciate now, given the huge expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Spider-Man 2’s” deft mix of superheroes, human drama, and cutting-edge spectacular effects still had novelty value when it was released.

The entertainment value of Maguire’s fascinating picture of the superhero as an imperfect young man hasn’t diminished with the passage of time. Critics admired this film, praising it for masterfully mixing action and humor.

9. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) — Critics Score: 94%

In Holland’s third solo feature as Spider-Man, Peter battles the most powerful villains that have ever faced any Spider-Man in the multiverse in order to reclaim his secret identity and defend those he cares about. This astounding dive into the multiverse storyline, which many had been anticipating, amazed fans and critics.

10. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) — Critics Score: 97%

“Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse,” a 2018 animated film, was appreciated for being visually stunning and for developing its characters with a beautiful blend of comedy and empathy.
