1. Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (SonyLIV)

Hansal Mehta’s drama traces the rise and fall of stockbroker Harshad Mehta in Bombay of the late 1980s and early 1990s. It is based on the book The Scam by journalists Debashis Basu and Sucheta Dalal, and it released on SonyLIV in October 2020.

Pratik Gandhi, then known mainly for Gujarati theatre and cinema, became a star overnight. The show explains the securities scam in simple terms, so you do not need to know the stock market to follow it.

2. Panchayat (Prime Video)

Made by The Viral Fever (TVF), Panchayat follows Abhishek Tripathi, an engineering graduate played by Jitendra Kumar, who takes a government job as panchayat secretary in Phulera, a village in Uttar Pradesh. Neena Gupta and Raghubir Yadav play the pradhan and her husband.

The first season arrived in April 2020 and four seasons have streamed so far. Prime Video announced a fifth season for 2026, according to The Hollywood Reporter India.

3. The Family Man (Prime Video)

Raj and DK’s spy series stars Manoj Bajpayee as Srikant Tiwari, an officer with a fictional intelligence unit called TASC who struggles to keep his family life in order. Seasons 1 and 2 came out in 2019 and 2021.

Season 3 began streaming on 21 November 2025, with Jaideep Ahlawat and Nimrat Kaur joining as new adversaries, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter India. The mix of action and everyday humour is what keeps viewers coming back.

4. Sacred Games (Netflix)

Sacred Games was Netflix’s first Indian original series, released in July 2018. Based on Vikram Chandra’s novel, it was directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, with Saif Ali Khan as police officer Sartaj Singh and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as gangster Ganesh Gaitonde.

The show ran for two seasons. It is often credited with proving that Indian audiences would pay for long-form, adult drama on a streaming service.

5. Delhi Crime (Netflix)

Richie Mehta’s police drama stars Shefali Shah as DCP Vartika Chaturvedi. The first season follows the investigation into the 2012 Delhi gang rape case and handles the subject without sensationalism.

In 2020, Delhi Crime became the first Indian series to win the International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series. The third season, released in November 2025, deals with a human trafficking case and adds Huma Qureshi to the cast.

6. Paatal Lok (Prime Video)

Jaideep Ahlawat plays Hathi Ram Chaudhary, a tired inspector at a Delhi police station who lands a high-profile case. The first season, released in May 2020, looked at caste, media and politics through a single investigation.

Season 2 arrived in January 2025 and moved the story to Nagaland. Both seasons reward patient viewing, since the show builds its characters slowly.

7. Kota Factory (Netflix)

Shot in black and white, this TVF series follows students preparing for IIT entrance exams in Kota, Rajasthan. Jitendra Kumar plays Jeetu Bhaiya, a physics teacher who cares about his students beyond their ranks.

The first season premiered on TVF’s YouTube channel in 2019, and later seasons have streamed on Netflix, with Season 3 released in June 2024. Many students and parents say it reflects the pressure of coaching culture accurately. Read more on student life in our education section.

8. Gullak (SonyLIV)

Gullak is a gentle comedy about the Mishras, a middle-class family in a small north Indian town. Each episode covers a small household problem, such as an electricity bill or a relative’s visit, narrated by the family’s piggy bank.

The show has run for four seasons on SonyLIV. It is a good pick for watching with parents, since it has no violence or strong language.

9. Rocket Boys (SonyLIV)

This period drama tells the story of physicist Homi J. Bhabha, played by Jim Sarbh, and Vikram Sarabhai, played by Ishwak Singh, and their role in building India’s nuclear and space programmes. It also features a young A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Created by Nikkhil Advani’s Emmay Entertainment and directed by Abhay Pannu, it ran for two seasons in 2022 and 2023.

10. Mirzapur (Prime Video)

Mirzapur is a crime drama about the Tripathi family, who run the guns and drugs trade in the Uttar Pradesh town of the same name. Pankaj Tripathi plays Kaleen Bhaiya, while Ali Fazal plays Guddu Pandit.

The show has had three seasons, released in 2018, 2020 and 2024. It is violent and not suited to family viewing, but it remains one of the most watched Indian shows on the platform.
