Times are tough and everybody is familiar with the severity of corona and health care issues in India. In such difficult times, some people are volunteering to help the infected people and are providing them help under their capabilities. Such is the story of Razak, a 40-year-old tea shop owner who turned into a volunteer lately and helped perform the last rites of COVID victims.
Razak caught social media attention when his photo went viral in which he was carrying the dead body of an infant from St. John’s hospital for burial. The moment the photo surfaced the internet, Razak was praised for his humanitarian work by a lot of people but not to forget it left a terrible impression of the current situation in people’s mind as well. They were shocked and devastated to see this and at the same time, a sense of humanity seems to have awoken in most.
Razak who is associated with Mercy Angels shared his experience with Bengal Mirror about his will to provide help to the people who are in desperate need of it.“The little girl from West Bengal had some kidney problems and so, she was admitted to St John’s hospital. Later, she turned COVID-positive and was in the hospital for quite some.” He said
“When we got a call from the volunteer group, I pitched in to go and complete the last rites of the deceased child. Her parents were also there with me and they were in shock, went to the mortuary, picked up her body, and drove to the crematorium in an ambulance,” he added.
“I am from Kannur and have a tea shop in Frazer Town. I have been staying here for a long time and over the last few months, I have been noticing how people are struggling for their lives. If I get a call, I leave the shop, finish the last rites and come back to take a shower and return to work” he told further.
Volunteers across the country have made us believe that no act of kindness is ever too small and similarly lay the inspiration to many. On the other hand, the healthcare crisis in India during the pandemic is very real. With the acute shortage of quality health treatment, people are dealing with difficulty in performing the last rites of their family members. Not only financially this situation is very disturbing emotionally as well for the people who are suffering.
This incident speaks volumes about the humanitarian values of Razak and other volunteers like him. The help they are providing really matters and is worth every praise and TSA promises to continue to introduce our readers with the real-life heroes like Razak.
