Over 7.8 lakh cases, 5 districts witness 400 per cent jump in Maharashtra Pushing the Authorities Responsible In Deep Concern
The state on Sunday reported a single-day highest spike of 16,408 cases which pushed its current data to 7,80,689 as notified by the State Health Department. The death of 269 patients during the day pushed the fatality count to 24,399. As many as 7,690 patients were discharged on Sunday following their recovery. With this, the number of recovered patients has gone up to 5,62,401. There are 1,93,548 active cases in the state at present. And even today on Monday, marking its second day for such a spike, Maharashtra remains a state to report cases confirmed in such huge numbers within just 24 hours.
Five districts of Maharashtra have recorded over a 400 percent rise in COVID 19 cases since last month. As Covid -19 has spread faster than anticipated in rural areas, a shift in hotspots from Mumbai’s Metropolitan Region, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad to these five districts have been seen.
Maharashtra minister Uday Samant on Sunday said that although the Centre’s Unlock guidelines say that schools and colleges will remain shut till September 30, the UGC wants the final year exams to be conducted by that time. Upholding the UGC decision to conduct final year examinations, the Supreme Court had on Friday said that these students cannot be promoted without exams. “How can examinations be held by September 30 if schools and colleges are closed. What exactly should the state governments and students do?” Samant asked in a Tweet.
The Higher and Technical Education Minister said that the committee of Vice-Chancellors via a meeting will take the ultimate final decision and thereafter, will submit its report to the state government on Monday.
Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Sunday said the spike in COVID 19 cases in the state over the last one month was due to the government’s aggressive approach of “tracking, tracing, testing and treatment”.
“We are aggressively focusing, on four Ts- tracking, tracing, testing and treatment. There are 400 labs, for COVID 19 testing and more than 50,000 tests are done daily in the state. The antigen test and RT-PCR tests are being done to the optimum capacity,” the health minister added.
