Former president Pranab Mukherjee’s health declined and he continues to be on ventilator support, the Army Research and Referral Hospital said.

The 84-year old’s health has worsened due to a lung infection. Mukherjee underwent a life-saving surgery for a brain clot on 10th August. After the surgery, he slipped into a coma. He had also tested positive for COVID-19 on the same day.

‘On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID-19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self isolate and get tested for COVID-19’, tweeted the former president.

“There has been a decline in the medical condition of Hon’ble Shri Pranab Mukherjee since yesterday (Sunday). He is in septic shock and continues to be on ventilator support and is currently being managed by a team of specialists”, the Army Research and Referral Hospital said.

There were some initial signs a few days back that Mukherjee was responding to some sort of stimulus, but the condition today still remains critical reported NDTV.

Mukherjee was the 13th president of India and was awarded the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of the country. Pranab Mukherjee is one of the most prominent political leaders in India’s history.
