India among Top 50 Nations in Global Innovation Index 2020

Global Innovation Index of 2020 by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in India for the first time has been made to the top 50. Last time in 2015, our rank was as low as 81, and it has gone up in the Global Innovation Index.

WIPO releases the Global Innovation Index ranking every year. The GII is an annual ranking of countries by their capacity for and success in innovation.

The indicators of ranking include institutions, human capital and research, infrastructure, knowledge and technology outputs, and creative outputs.

The geography of innovation is continuing to shift towards Asia 🌏

The 4 countries that have seen the greatest progress in the Global Innovation Index rankings over the last decade are all in Asia⤵️

Despite the lockdown, Covid-19 blues, India has jumped four places on the GII 2020 to land at the 48th among the 131 economies featured in the GII 2020.

Switzerland, Sweden, the US, the UK, and the Netherlands lead the innovation positioning. The best 10 positions are overwhelmed by high-income nations, WIPO said in an announcement.

About India, the statement said it has become the third most innovative lower-middle-income economy in the world, thanks to newly available indicators and improvements in various areas of the GII.
