Karnataka IAS officer Mohammad Mohnis has been issued a show-cause notice for his appreciation tweet for the members of Tablighi Jamat who are donating their plasma for research and treatment of COVID-19.

The tweet says, “More than 300 Tablighi Heroes are donating their plasma to serve the country in New Delhi only. What about? #Godi Media? They will not show the works of humanity done by these heroes,”

He had done this tweet on 27th April 2020 and received the show cause notice against it within two days i.e. on 30th April 2020 which says, “The adverse coverage this tweet has got in the media has been taken note (of) seriously by the government given the serious nature of COVID-19 issue and the sensitivities involved.”

It has also been mentioned in the notice that if Mohammad Mohnis has failed to give justification for his tweet within five days further action will be taken against him under the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969.

Mohammad Mohnis is a 1996 batch officer and currently serving the Backward Class Welfare Department. Last year he was into headlines for giving orders to search the Prime Minister chopper at an election rally in Odisha. A senior state official said the action showed that Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa is not willing to compromise on any remarks by officials that have communal overtones.

Reacting to the show-cause notice he shared that he has been actively sharing the information and helpline numbers related to COVID-19 on his tweeter “I have shared no less than 40 or 50 posts about helpline numbers to Covid-19 messages from the government and Ministry of Health, including those for appeals for the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund,” he said, according to NDTV.
