The 49th International Emmy Awards were held on 22 November 2021 in New York. From India, there were three nominations, but none could record a win at the Emmys.
The French comedy show Call My Agent and Israeli drama Tehran took the highest prizes at the 49th annual International Emmys, The United Kingdom has won both top acting honours: David Tennant for crime thriller Des and Hayley Squires for porn drama Adult Material — also winning the Non-Scripted Entertainment prize for The Masked Singer.
Norway’s Atlantic Crossing won laurels for Television Movie/Miniseries, and Thailand won its first International Emmy, Hope Frozen: A Quest to Live Twice, in the Documentary category.
From India, Comedian Vir Das, who was present at the ceremony, was nominated in the Comedy section for his Netflix special Vir Das: For India.
The award was won by the French series Call My Agent!– Season 4. Vir tweeted from the event, “I was nominated for best comedy at the International Emmy Awards, for jokes. Call My Agent, a beautiful show I love, won The International Emmy Award. It is an award bestowed by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS) for the recognition of the best television programs initially produced and aired outside the United States. But I got this medal and ate this fantastic salad loaded with cheese. It was an honour to represent my country. Thanks so much to the @iemmys.”
Nawazuddin Siddiqui was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor for his film Serious Men but lost to David Tennant. The other nominees in this category were Roy Nik in Normal from Israel and Christian Tappán in The Great Heist from Columbia.
Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui was nominated in the category of Best Performance by an Actor category for Serious Men. David Tennant won the award for his performance in Des. Disney+ Hotstar series Aarya, starring Sushmita Sen in the lead role, was nominated in the Best Drama Series category but lost to the Israeli series Tehran that won the award.
Last year, India’s ‘Delhi Crime’ won in the drama category.
