Suspecting prime involvement with the riots that broke out in the national capital’s Chand Bagh area in February this year, Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested Khalid Saifi after an investigation that suspected him to be a crucial mediator between suspended AAP Councilor Tahir Hussain and activist Umar Khalid.
Saifi has been alleged for being one of the key conspirators of the violence that broke out in Delhi’s Chand Bagh area during the riots in February this year. He has been accused in the third charge sheet filed over the Delhi riots. His presence in a meeting on January 8 at Shaheen Bagh where anti-CAA protests were going on, have also landed him in the problem.
Many times earlier, Home Minister Amit Shah had made several mentions of Khalid Saifi and his organization during the parliamentary debate on Delhi’s riots.
“United Against Hate – the name sounds so pious but look what they advocated. They said, ‘Donald Trump is about to come, we should block the streets’.” Shah was heard saying in the parliament.
Who is Khalid Saifi
Khalid Saifi is one of the founders of a campaign turned organization named United Against Hate (UAH) which led the Anti-CAA Protests in Delhi. This campaign was started in July 2017 as a response to the lynching that had taken place. The other two founders are Nadeem Khan and Banojyotsna.
This campaign came into action after a 15-years old Md. Junaid from Haryana’s Ballabgarh was lynched while returning home after Eid’s shopping.
The outrage amongst the citizens in India was so high that many in numbers joined Saifi and his campaign.
