The central Board of Secondary Education exams which were to be held from July 1- 15 for class 10th and 12th are cancelled. As per new guidelines, class 12th students will be evaluated on their performance in the last three school exams. Students will have an option to appear in the examination if they wish to. In case they are not satisfied with the marks given by the board.
With the pandemic situation, the rapid rise in coronavirus cases across the country still continues. Supreme Court had then asked CBSE to reconsider its decision to conduct the exams in July. The announcement of the CBSE exams is also going to impact the admission process of all Central universities as well as the National entrance exams including JEE Main and NEET 2020.
The Delhi government, which has the most number of CBSE schools, had earlier shown its dissatisfaction in holding the board exams. Delhi Education Minister, Manish Sisodia, had written a letter to the HRD Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, requesting him not to conduct the pending CBSE exams in Delhi.
In Maharashtra, a case has been filed against the conducting of CISCE exams. In Bombay High Court, the CISCE has given the option to drop out of board exams to class 10 and class 12 students. An alternative way of examination is also being discussed within the CISCE.
Centre tells SC that it took a decision as many state governments expressed inability in conducting exams and many schools have been converted into quarantine centres. The education board said that it would conduct the remaining exams when the conditions will become conducive.
However, Class 12th students can opt for exams to be conducted later, CBSE told the top court. The details of the same will release later. But the same provision is not applicable for class 10th students. The class 10 board examinations will not have an option for re-examination later. The students of 10th standard will be evaluated on the basis of performance in the last three exams, the SC said.
