A student of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) lodged a police complaint against a fellow student for allegedly threatening her on social media that she would be forced to wear a brass hijab (peetal ka hijab), once the university opens after the lockdown, an ABP news update of 16 Jul 2020, 07:45 AM (IST) that ran across the gleaming television screen early this morning.

Three days earlier, on July 13, 2020, the digital news platform OpIndia wrote that the AMU girl complained about being threatened and hounded since CAA was passed and that the girl will be made to wear “brass-hijab”.

Was that it? Wasn’t there a way someone could investigate deeper and let the reason prevail once before arriving at a conclusion?

To get more accurate information on the issue,  our team tried to reach the complainer as well as the accused in the case through a telephone call.

According to the information, we have, as of now, the complainer got involved with the accused in an exchange of comments on a social media post by an Instagram page Political Blasphemy which is said to have run by a fellow student who seemed to be too critical of a particular community and often exhibited anti-Muslim bias through its posts, according to the accused.

“In the post, I saw the girl’s comment where she wrote against the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University’s tehzeeb and accused that girls are forced to cover themselves. When I saw that I burst out in anger and replied to her comment and asked her about that, but you may find it in a foul language for which I am ready to apologize. In her FIR, she mentioned that I threatened her to wear a brass hijab (peetal ka hijab) which is of course a false accusation on my character”, said the accused.

“I posted this remark as a general comment to the admin (male) of the Instagram page Political Blasphemy. The comment was not specifically targeted to a particular person as you will see there is no mention of any body’s name in the comment also it was the ‘autocorrect’ feature that converted the text into something which I did not intend to say. I wrote ‘apko bhi hijab pehnaya jayega wo bhi “peet ke”, the last two words got converted into “Peetal ka” unintentionally”, said the accused while talking to TSA.

She cropped my reply, used them as a weapon, and posted those manipulated screenshots on her story. I was unaware of this and came to know about it when someone sent the screenshot of her story, then I again replied to her to answer me and again she didn’t. Afterwards, a page on twitter named “Hindus of AMU” reposted this manipulated duo of a cropped screenshot on its wall and tagged various departments and got retweets. This page is also an example of extremism to target a particular section of society to demean it and spread hate against it, he further told while speaking to the TSA.

When I came to know that a complaint has been sent to SSP Aligarh regarding it and some previous incidents of her related to CAA and NRC protest, which of course has nothing to do with me as have been mentioned in the complaint.

AMUI didn’t even know the complainer, before the comment incident, says accused.

Later, I received a text from her asking me to apologize on video or a post for something which I hadn’t committed. She also gave me the ultimatum to apologize. Later I found myself tagged in someone’s comment on a post which said “Girls in AMU received rape threats for supporting CAA” which was obviously shocking and an act of harassment for me.

Since then, my message box is littered with messages of unknowns who are abusing me, threatening me, calling me jihadi, Talibani and what not. However, I answered all of them gave them the screenshots and cleared the issue that its a fake propaganda against me. Most of them agreed later and some of them even said that they stand with me.

TSA tried to contact the girl also but we were unable to reach after multiple attempts.

Taking cognizance of the matter, state women’s commission member Meena Kumari has written to Aligarh SP (crime) Arvind Kumar and sought action on the complaint filed by the girl student. The police had assured to register an FIR in the matter.

SP (crime) Arvind Kumar confirmed that the matter is being inquired in detail. Appropriate IPC sections will be imposed in the FIR after the preliminary inquiry, according to a TOI report.

I am student of Bachelor in Architecture (19 Batch) and a resident of Nadeem Tarin Hall.
A student of B.tech named Nakshatra has filed a complaint against me to SSP Aligarh on the basis of a comment on social media comment box, where she mentioned that I threatened her to wear brass hijab which is of course a false accusation on my character. As you can clearly see in the screenshot of the comment box that my comment is on the post and nowhere anyone is mentioned or named. This was for the admin of the page named Political Blasphemy on Instagram, posts anti muslim stuffs and spreads hatred against targeting a particular community. In the post I saw her comment where she wrote against the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University’s tahzeeb and accused that girls are forced to cover themselves and used inappropriate language, which you can see in the attached copy of screenshot. When I saw that I burst out in anger and replied to her comment and asked her about that, but you might find it foul language for which I am ready to apologize, but my question was just a question which you can see in the screenshot too. She didn’t answer me and others too who asked her about that. Then she cropped my reply used them as a weapon and posted those manipulated screenshots on her stoy. I was unaware of this and came to know about it when someone sent the screenshot of her story, then I again replied her to answer me and again she didn’t. Afterwards a page on twitter named “Hindus of AMU” reposted this manipulated duo of cropped screenshot on its wall and tagged various departments and got retweets. This page again is an example of exremism to target a particular section of society to demean it and spread hate against it. And today I came to know that a complaint has been sent to SSP Aligarh regarding it and some previous incidents of her related to CAA and NRC protest, which of course has nothing to do with me as its mentioned in the complaint too and I didn’t even know the complainer, before the comment incident.
