Anurag Kashyap is not an unknown name, especially when his hat is adorned with various feathers of national and international awards and recognitions. He is known to have created a cinematic universe of dark and grey characters.
These are the kind of movies that make us honestly believe the power cinema holds. His forte is crime thrillers and drama movies, but he’s also attempted romantic film fairly well. He is a well-known director, writer, actor, and producer who has done exceptionally well in all walks.
Today on 10th September, as we celebrate his 49th birthday, there could be no better way to celebrate him than remembering his immense contribution to the industry.
So here are five times when Anurag Kashyap, through his projects, proved how big an asset he is to the Indian Film Industry:
1. When his production house, Anurag Kashyap Films, brought to the screens films like ‘Udaan’ (2010) and ‘Haraamkhor’ (2015).
2. When his direction-driven production house ‘Phantom Films’ made the critically acclaimed film ‘Lootera’ (2013); he collaborated with Dharma to bring forth movies like ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’ (2014), Queen (2013), and Ugly (2014) and co-produced ‘Udta Punjab’ (2016) with Ekta Kapoor. Not to forget, movies like ‘Trapped’ (2016) and ‘Bhavesh Joshi Superhero’ (2018) were also Phantom Films production.
3. When he proved his mettle in acting by playing some seriously gritty characters like the corrupt police officer in ‘Akira’ (2016), the full-fledged antagonist in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s ‘Shagird’ (2011), and an exaggerated version of himself in the movie ‘AK vs AK’ (2020).
4. When he set his foot in the industry as a writer and eventually went on to co-write Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Satya’ (1998) with Saurabh Shukla, and further collaborated in the scripting of ‘Kaun’ (1999) and dialogues of ‘Shool’ (1999).
5. When he directed some phenomenal movies including: ‘Paanch’ (2003) which was his directorial debut, ‘Black Friday’ (2004) based on the 1993 serial bomb blasts in Bombay, ‘Gulaal’ (2009) the gritty crime thriller drama movie, ‘Dev.D’ (2009) dark comedy which was a modern-day rendition of Devdas, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ (2012) the gangster movie based in Bihar, ‘Raman Raghav’ (2016) based on a serial killer and ‘Manmarziyaan’ (2018) which was a romantic drama.
