Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change minister Bhupendra Yadav, in a meeting held with COP-26 President-Designate (UK) Alok Sharma, affirmed the country’s full support to the upcoming conference on Climate change to be held in November in Glasgow.
They are expecting all the key players of the world to be a part of it. India, being the third-largest greenhouse gas emitter, has a significant role to play in it.
Alok Sharma sought the support of India in its leadership role in the COP-26 Conference, an endeavor initiated by the UK to tackle the climate menace.
They took up the discussions related to matters of climate change and the India-UK 2030 Roadmap.
The Environmental Minister said that India is fully committed to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement reported India Today.
Bhupendra Yadav said, “World needs concrete actions in climate finance and technology transfer by the developed countries.”
“India believes that Climate actions must be nationally determined and strongly advocates that the differentiation and operationalization of flexibility provided in the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement for developing countries should be at the core of decision-making,” he added.
The COP 26 UN Climate Change Conference, which the UK would host in partnership with Italy, will occur from 31 October to 12 November 2021 in the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow, UK.
Asserting upon the goals focused by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on climate justice, Yadav highlighted many global initiatives which India is leading trying to make a difference reported The Tribune.
Moreover, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also met Sharma and discussed the issues to be taken up in the climate conference.
She asserted that India is among the few G20 nations on track and complying with the promises made in the UNFCC and Paris Agreement Goals.
However, while affirming full support to the upcoming conference on the climate crisis, Bhupendra Yadav also made the important point that India will advocate the principles of “differentiation” and “flexibility” present in the scope of the Paris Agreement for developing countries wrote the HT Times.

In its report earlier this month, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has asserted the gravity of climate change. The planet only has a slight chance to prevent a disastrous future with a climate calamity.
The world is likely to cross the threshold of 1.5 °C global warming just in a matter of this decade. The report added that greenhouse gas emissions coming from human activities are to be blamed for approximately 1.1°C of increase in the warming than the pre-industrial levels.
Moreover, over the next two decades, global temperature is expected to exceed by 1.5°C considering all the scenarios, including the world’s reducing emissions soon.
