Delhi government seeks financial assistance of Rs 5000 crore from the Central government. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Manish Sisodia who also holds the finance department revealed the media in a press conference on Sunday that the national capital is running short of revenue and has no money to pay salaries to its employees and meet other basic needs.
The Deputy CM has written the letter to the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman demanding an aid of Rs 5000 crores.
Ever since the lockdown was imposed the only revenue it generated summed up to Rs 500 crore each month through GSTs which is anyway insufficient for monthly expenditure. Delhi’s monthly revenue is ₹3500 crores in normal conditions.
Mr. Sisodia said, “We have reviewed the Delhi government’s minimum expenses. According to that, we need Rs 3500 crore every month. In the past two months, our GST collection has been only Rs 500 crore each month. We need at least Rs 7000 crore to be able to pay salaries to our employees, many of whom are discharging frontline duties against the coronavirus epidemic,”
“We have written a letter to our Union Finance Minister in this tough time. Moreover, Delhi did not get anything from the disaster relief fund that was given to other states.” He added.
