Jaishankar talks to Chinese Counterpart to establish hotline

The Foreign Minister of India S. Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi spoke to each other for one hour fifteen minutes over the phone on Thursday. To make progress in disengagement between both countries along the border.
India and China both agreed to set up hotlines for timely Communication.

In a tweet, S. Jaishankar said, “Spoke to State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi this afternoon. Discussed the implementation of our Moscow agreement and reviewed the status of disengagement”.

For the first time, both countries spoke after their respective military forces completed disengagement at Southern and Northern banks of Panging Tso at the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
While a statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Minister said “Delhi and Beijing decided to establish a hotline to ensure timely communication and exchanging opinions”.

“India had proposed ‘three Mutuals’ ( Mutual Respect, Mutual Sensitivity and Mutual Interest) as an approach for the betterment of relationship”. He further added.

Ministry of External Affairs( MEA) said that S. Jaishankar also referred to his meeting with Wang Yi in September 2020 in Moscow, where India had expressed its concern on unilateral provocative behaviour of the Chinese forces at LAC.

“Both emerging economies China and India need to pursue development instead of becoming an obstacle along the way of each other. And we should handle the situation properly lest it sinks into a negative cycle said, Wang Yi.

In June 2020, Chinese troops had fired across Galwan, in which Indian lost 20 of its soldiers. Subsequently, India had banned Chinese apps and increased scrutiny on Chinese investments.
