On Saturday, A 14-years-old girl, daughter of a Senior Railway Officer and a resident of Gautampalli area of Lucknow shot dead her mother Malini Bajpai (45) and brother, Sharad (20) around 3:30 pm using her father’s pistol.
The girl made the confession in the presence of a counsellor and women police officers that she took inspiration from the novel ‘No Longer Human’ that talked about a troubled man who is incapable of disclosing his true self to the world.
“A character in Dazai’s novel called Oba Yozo tries to adapt, cope and fit in but fails to become a human. The girl admits of whatever she has done is an inspiration adapted from the book’s character. In her notebook, she has scribbled ‘to fail to be human, to be disqualified as a human being’. This is an excerpt from the book,” a Police Officer said in an interview by The Times of India
According to the counsellor, the girl was going through a depression and she used to respond with the characters in the Japanese author’s novel and reacted similarly. Even her behaviour correlated to much an extends with the novel.
She loaded 5 bullets in the gun and used only 3 of them. The girl went to the bathroom, took a shower and then with fruit jam scribbled ‘I am a disqualified human’, on the mirror, first shot in the bathroom mirror and later she came out and shot her mother and brother who were asleep in the afternoon.
The girl has participated in national rifle shooting events and has been a shooter since 2013. The girl has a good remark in her studies as well as in co-curricular activities.
