Mithila Palkar on favouritism in Bollywood, says sometimes a role went to the female actor who didn’t even audition for it

The actress, however, adds that she doesn`t let it affect her. She is happy with what she has achieved in the last four years

Beyond the outpouring of grief over Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput`s death words like ‘groupism’, ‘favouritism’ and ‘nepotism’ are being widely discussed over social media.
While the internet is rife with an opinion, several Bollywood celebs have hinted at a ‘privilege club’ that exist in Bollywood. Mithila Palkar of Katti Batti fame has also expressed her opinion about the same in a recent interview.

She said that everyone deserves to get a fair chance to succeed in the industry. Giving an example of this issue, the actress talks about an audition process and asserts how a fair play there can bring about a positive change. She states that almost ten of them audition for a role and won`t get it but a role has gone to an actress who didn`t even audition for it, while the others who did, faced rejection.

Mithila further added that she feels sad about people coming from a non-filmy background losing opportunities. The actress, however, adds that she doesn`t let it affect her. She is happy with what she has achieved in the last four years. She also adds that connections with popular directors and producers help but she doesn`t want her father or friends to recommend her.

Being a rank outsider in Bollywood, Palkar says she never compromises on her choices and has her set of principles when it comes to working. “If I like some content, I obviously go ahead, but if there are areas that I feel might not be easier for me to do, then I do request the makers to tweak it a bit. I don’t believe in compromising with things that don’t work for me. Like anything related to fairness and all is a no-no,” says the actress, who’s excited about her web film Tribhanga co-starring Kajol, and is being helmed by Renuka Shahane.

“I first met Renuka Tai in 2013 during a theatre festival. I won’t say I’m lucky I got this opportunity because I feel lucky is a very loose word. We can’t put everything on luck and disregard the efforts. Had I faltered in between I might not have landed this part,” she concludes.
