Om Birla agreed and the Lok Sabha secretariat issued a revised list of floor leaders, which included the newly-elected Pashupati Kumar Paras.
As questions were raised, Mr. Paras addressed the media, stating the decision was reached by consensus in the party, since many were unhappy with the turn of events in the past.
He also stated that the party will maintain its alliance with NDA. Paras said Chirag Paswan, shall continue his duty at the party.
Chirag Paswan drove to the national capital to have a conversation with his uncle.
Paras refused to meet Chirag. According to the reports he was going to propose his mother’s name for leading the party.
A meeting was organized in Patna on 12 June where a decision to replace Chirag Paswan was set forth. The agreement was reached after long hours of deliberations.
Prince Raj, Paswan’s cousin, Mehboob Ali Kaiser, Chandan Singh, Veena Devi supported Mr. Paras.
Prince Raj, the cousin of Chirag Paswan whom he trusted and had appointed as Bihar unit chief, turned his back on him. Raj is the son of the late Ramchandra Paswan, the younger brother of Ram Vilas Paswan.
The speculation of the coup was circulating for days as five MPs of the six turned their heads towards Paras.
The tension started building when Ram Vilas Paswan passed away on 8 October 2020, after four days, Chirag Paswan allegedly threatened to dismiss Mr. Paras from the party.
The heated exchange between the two individuals led to a strained relationship.
An hour-long meeting with the supporters of Mr. Paras was also accompanied by JDU leader Lallan Singh. The coup is alleged to be a result of a mutual decision between BJP and Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal-United (JDU).
The situation went downhill for Chirag Paswan when he decided to step away from the NDA alliance and contest the election solo. The change in an alliance led to JDU losing 32 seats in the assembly elections.
Later, Chirag launched a campaign against JDU and Nitish Kumar.
Paras had criticized Paswan for this move.
In an interview with The Hindu, LJP leader Mehboob Ali Kaiser stated that the Bihar election is responsible for the turn of events.
According to Kaiser, Chirag was advised to not go against Nitish Kumar, but he did not listen.
In January, before the commencement of the budget session. Pralhad Joshi, Parliamentary Affairs Minister, had invited Chirag Paswan for an NDA meeting, which JDU objected to; the invitation was then retracted.
The familial fallout between nephew and uncle was mainly due to differences of opinion about Nitish Kumar.
While Paras provided support to Nitish Kumar, Chirag Paswan stepped away from the alliance, causing a strain in their relationship.
