A Delhi Court on Wednesday removed the charges on Congress MP Shashi Tharoor related to his wife Sunanda Pushkar’s death. Sunanda Pushkar died under mysterious circumstances in 2014.
Sunanda Pushkar (aged 51) was found dead in a luxury hotel room in Delhi on January 17, 2014. At that time, Shashi Tharoor was attending a Congress party Meet with then PM Manmohan Singh and other members of the Congress.
His family lived in a hotel because their house was getting renovated. Shashi Tharoor was named in the Investigation Report with charges of instigating his wife for suicide and cruelty.
But, now the court declined the charges and exempted him from all the charges linked with the case. He released a long statement after the verdict.
He stated that he is grateful for the decision and appreciates it. He also shared that now his family can mourn the death of his late wife in peace.
Mr. Shashi Tharoor also wrote that after countless media accusations, he has sustained his faith in Judiciary.
The Congress MP also told that the death of Sunanda Pushkar was an accident and not suicide or Murder. He reported that she was suffering from various ailments and there are no witnesses to prove that he asked for dowry or harassed her.
His lawyer stated that the special investigation team acquired him. While the prosecution was even unable to prove the cause of her death.
The former Union Minister married Sunanda Pushkar in 2010. So, her death after 4 years aroused assumptions in Indian politics. Some last tweets of Sunanda Pushkar raised some reports of a rift between them.
He was even alleged to have an affair with a Pakistani journalist after his wife had a Twitter war with her over it. But, the cause of her death was not clear.
Even the post-mortem report had no clear reasons for her death. The aspect of drug overdose was not clear because she was undergoing medical treatment.
Some bite marks and injury marks were found on her body. The police alleged that there was some kind of hidden poison that caused her death. In 2015, a murder case was registered in this matter and 3 years later Mr, Shashi Tharoor was named in it.
Mr. Tharoor always denied the allegations calling them baseless and a case of political rivalry. Earlier, he was also involved in a corruption case related to IPL.
For this reason, he had to resign as a Union Minister from the government. The Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that the truth has prevailed even after the constant allegations, slander, and abuse by Media and BJP members.
He also asked whether the BJP members and Prime Minister will apologize publicly after their claims are proved wrong?
The hearing on Wednesday took place virtually. The decision was given by special court judge Geetanjali Goel.
