Peaky Blinders has it all: a dismal industrial England, elegant violence, men and women in suits puffing on cigarettes, and a lot of dramatic dialogue. The Shelby family criminal tale, now in its fifth season, has developed its own cult following.

Although there isn’t much room for emotive or sobbing monologues, Steven Knight’s script does not shy away from rapid, sharp banter and cinematic lines between its characters, whether it’s Thomas Shelby’s (Cillian Murphy) dry wit or Aunt Polly’s furious retorts.

From the previous five series, we’ve hand-picked some of the Unforgettable dialogues Of Peaky Blinders.

See if you can recall these quotes, super fans…

1. ‘This place is under new management, by order of the Peaky Blinders.’

-Arthur Shelby

You get a bleeding face and a charred bar if you meddle with the Peaky Blinders. At least, if you irritate Arthur Shelby, the family patriarch’s loud-mouthed, hot-headed brother.

This famous phrase comes from a scenario in which Arthur’s cousin Michael is out with a friend at a bar. However, because Michael’s companion is a black man, the bigoted bar kicks them out.

2. Don’t f*** with the Peaky Blinders!

3. “Everyone’s a wh*re, Grace. We just sell different parts of ourselves.”

— Tommy Shelby

Tommy planned to utilise Grace’s charm and attractiveness to win over Billy Kimber in the beginning, before they fell in love. Grace accused Tommy of prostituting her for his own gain after she discovered Tommy’s genuine motives of inviting her to a race. This was his clever retort.

He is not, in fact, incorrect. We all sell ourselves in different ways to acquire what we want.

4.“I’ve heard very bad, bad bad things about you Birmingham people”

-Alfie Solomons

As Alfie Solomons put it. He has the ability to speak, and he is far more terrifying than the Shelbys.

Tom Hardy’s performance as rival London gang leader Alfie has left an indelible impression in every scene, delivering some memorable lines.

6. ‘No fighting. No f****** fighting. No fighting. NO F****** FIGHTING!’

-Thomas Shelby

It’s the day of Thomas’ wedding. It’s amusing to watch the Shelbys interact with Grace’s family, the majority of whom are British Army personnel. Shelby simply wants to make sure none of his family members humiliate him in front of his in-laws, so he gathers his brothers and friends in the kitchen and gives them some instructions.

The rules include things like not snorting cocaine, not firing weapons, and not fighting. This statement is easily meme material and plays out amusingly.

7. “I just put a bullet in his head…he looked at me the wrong way.”

— Tommy Shelby

Tommy had to put his new prized horse to the end of its agony after something occurred to it. He then proceeds to The Garrison for a drink and a chat with Grace, his favourite barmaid.

She performs a song for him, and the two become closer. But not before she inquires about his horse, to which he responds truthfully. Mostly. That may or may not be the true reason for the horse’s death, but he says it to warn her that he is a dangerous guy. Despite this, she refuses to leave.

8. ‘Sergeant Thorne, reporting for duty, sir.’

-Freddie Thorne

Billy Kimber, one of the first season’s bad guys, returns with a group that outnumbers Shelby and his men. Seeing an opening to start a conversation, Thomas suggests calmly that if they’re going to fight with guns, they should use “appropriate guns.”

Then Freddie, Thomas’s brother-in-law and fellow war veteran, appears, brandishing a stolen Chinese machine gun. Kimber and his thugs are taken aback. Freddie’s entrance alone makes the sequence cool enough, even if there isn’t much firing after that.

9. ‘Who wants to be in heaven when you can be sending men to f****** hell?’

-Arthur Shelby

When it comes to paradise and hell, Arthur has a completely different worldview. Arthur has primarily been a wild beast on the loose, despite having PTSD and drug concerns. This line simply adds to his outbursts of anger and bloodlust.

If mobster figures were to be compared, Arthur would certainly be a distant relative of Joe Pesci from Goodfellas or Sonny Corleone from The Godfather!

10. “Intelligence is a very valuable thing, innit, my friend. And usually, it comes far too f****** late.”

— Alfie Solomons

Although Alfie Solomons is a ruthless criminal who only cares about himself, many Peaky Blinders fans regard him as a fan favourite. He’s amusing in both his demeanour and his language, and Tom Hardy nails it as him.

Alfie says this quote, which is one of his wiser ones. This demonstrates why he is constantly 10 steps ahead. Intelligence is something to be cherished, and in their world, only the wise survive.
