The Censor Board of Film Certification has been denied to approve the Malayalam film Varthamanan, last week.
Following that, the film director has now received a green signal from the Delhi censor board reviewing committee.
The CBFC member, advocate Sandeep Kumar, who earlier criticized the film and the director on Twitter saying that he did not give permission to the film and his producer, Aryadan Shaukat for screening because this film shows the oppression of Dalit and Muslims in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) protest. The tweet is now deleted.
Talking with The Wire, Sandeep also said that this film is made with bad intentions, it could cause hatred and violence between communities.
The Malayalam film, Varthamanam directed by Siddharta Siva, starring Parvathy Thiruvothu as a student from Kerala, who went to study at Jawaharlal University for her research on freedom fighters. According to the reports, the film has also talked about students’ protests and the Kashmir issue.
The first look of the film poster was published by Mollywood star Mammootty via social media. Parvathy is seen as a Hijabi girl. This film was presented by Benzy Nazar and Aryadan Shoukath under the Benzy production.
The crew members are, Aryadan Shaukat is the Director and the scriptwriter, the cinematography by Alakappan, and editing by Shameer Muhammad. Pandit Ramesh Narayan and Hesham Adul Wahab are the music composers.
The major part of the film was shot in North India.
