Reportedly on Wednesday, a Dalit girl from basti called Kamal Nagar in Telangana, allegedly raped by AIMIM party worker. The accused was identified as 24-year-old Mohammed Shakeel works for the All India Majlis-e- Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), which is led by Asaduddin Owaisi and an assistant to Malakpet MLA Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala.
On 6th May, the accused was apprehended by Chanderghat police under IPC sections 448 (house trespass), 376 (punishment for rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) along with sections 3 and 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and section 3 (2) (v) of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Prevention of Atrocities (PoA) Act. A complaint was given by the survivor’s cousin on that basis the FIR was registered against the accused.
The accused shoved into the survivor’s residence by climbing a wall at around 2 am when the victim was alone at her home. The accused molested the girl before she could shout out for any help. Her cousin rushed to help after hearing the survivor’s cries, who also lives in the same colony.
According to a statement, a controversy arose as Shakeel is already married. Then Shakeel impelled the casteist abuses at the girl and the cousin and intimidated them with results boasting that he is a MIM leader. However, he somehow managed to escape the place before they could have called the cops. The statement further says that later on the girl exposed that Shakeel had been blocking and harassing her on the streets and tormenting her by asking for sexual favours for months now. The survivor is 16 years old and lost her parents at a very early age. She lives with her grandparents.
While giving her statement to the police, the victim said, “Shakeel would often intimidate her with gangrape. He aggressively gave her his phone number. He would tell me to call him else he would ask his friends to rape me.” She further stated that she has never opened up about the matter to her family, as her grandparents are old and have health issues so she didn’t want to create any stress for them. Similarly, many Dalit families lived in that basti near Kamal Nagar, which belongs to the scheduled caste “Madiga”. Nearly all the families are poor. The survivor works as a house help, while her cousin drives an autorickshaw.
The incident was condemned by AIMIM. Shaik Mohiuddin who is a corporator in Azampura demanded strict actions against the accused, which was retweeted by the Malakpet MLA.
Meanwhile, in violation of the Supreme Court judgement, the controversial BJP MLA from Goshamahal, Raja Singh, who has demanded justice to the survivor, has disclosed the survivor’s name. According to the apex court, “No person can print or publish in print, electronic, social media, etc. the name of the victim or even in a remote manner disclose any facts which can lead to the victim being identified and which should make her identity known to the public at large.”
