If you have bought an Amazon Prime subscription for retail purposes, isn’t it a bonus to get some of the most amazing series of all time on the platform, too?
However, Amazon Prime Video is not a hit when it comes to listing its content. Various popular shows and movies get lost in the ocean of content released on the platform every month. To make that work easy for you, we have compiled some of the best shows on Prime Video that are worth your time. Considering the diversity of genres enjoyed by varied audiences, you will surely find your cup of tea!
Here are the best shows on Amazon Prime right now that you can binge-watch on weekends-
1. Fleabag
If the best shows on Prime Video are listed, it has to begin with Fleabag. A black comedy drama starring (and written by the talented Phoebe Waller-Bridge in the titular role, Fleabag follows a confused and free-spirited woman with anger issues in London who often breaks the fourth wall for monologues and commentary for the audience.
While the initial season was amazing, it was the second season that accumulated a cult following when Andrew Scott joined the series, starring as the “Hot Priest.” Scott and Bridge had a fiery on-screen chemistry, and this was backed by the handling of themes in the series, making it a thrilling watch.
2. The Boys
We’ve all grown up watching our superheroes protect the world, but what if those heroes turn against us? What would they look like in a capitalistic society where everyone is behind profiteering?
Original Prime Video Series revolving around the same concept, it focuses on a world where superheroes are the troublemakers, and they seemingly cause accidents to show their valor and strength. Behind them is a gang of common people on a quest to uncover their truth and show the world their true faces.
3. The Horror of Dolores Roach
Based on the Spotify podcast of the same name, this horror comedy follows a woman who was unjustly put in prison for 16 years and returns to New York after its gentrification.
Blending themes of love, cannibalism, weed, and betrayal, the series weaves the experiences of this woman as she finds her survival in danger and finds herself doing what she must to save herself.
4. The Summer I Turned Pretty
Based on the novel of the same name by Jenny Han, The Summer I Turned Pretty mainly revolves around a 16-year-old, Belly, and her two childhood friends and brothers, Jeremiah and Conrad, as they struggle with their feelings for each other amidst facing challenges together.
Where there is love, there is heartbreak, denial, and confusion, and that’s pretty much what the series focuses on. However, the makers have carefully chosen characters, and you can’t help but fall for all of them. The casting of The Summer I Turned Pretty is one of its strongest points.
5. Jack Ryan
You might have seen John Krasinski as Jim Halpert in The Office, but Jack Ryan shows him in his new avatar- the action thriller is based on the fictional “Ryanverse” crafted by Tom Clancy. Krasinski plays the role of a CIA analyst who examines and solves international crimes and threats one after the other.
Over the years, it has received acclaim for its enthralling action sequences along with the jaw-dropping performances of the actors.
Jack Ryan ends with the fourth season, where Ryan is the Acting Deputy Director of the CIA. Jack Ryan is a must-watch for those who love a mixture of politics and thriller.
6. I’m a Virgo
Screenwriter, producer, and director Raymond Riley’s creation of an absurdist comedy follows a 13-foot-tall black guy, Cootie, who has decided to enter a society that he does not know when a group of teens extends a hand to help him.
A vigilante is on the loose in the area who tries to right wrongs by using his power over the minor criminals, and his attention has been caught by the gigantic young man.
I’m a Virgo, and I do not use CGI to generate a 13-foot-tall man; instead, the makers cast Jharrel Jerome, who himself is 5 feet 8 inches tall, and use old-school camera techniques to produce the required effect. It is as much of a coming-of-age story and is bound to make you laugh.
7. The Devil’s Hour
Ending the list with those who are fans of mystery-crime-hour, The Devil’s Hour follows a woman who keeps waking up between 3 am and 4 am and has the same nightmares for as long as she can remember.
She begins to question her sanity when her name gets connected to several murders taking place in her town. Moreover, her eight-year-old son is peculiar too; he does not like socializing and is a recluse, giving away a perfect mysterious plot for the viewers.
The British psychological thriller is creepy and ominous, but a treat for all those who enjoy these genres.
