Amidst Coronavirus where on one hand we have the brave front line workers who we salute wholeheartedly for risking their lives to save others, oppositely there are some common individuals too who have laid inspirations to many this pandemic by doing things which are exceptionally praiseworthy. One such name is Kader Shaikh a middle-aged man of 63, resident of Surat and a real- estate businessman by profession who after recovering from the deadly virus and paying lakhs of rupees for his treatment in a private hospital decided to do something for the poor which shall not go un-noticed.

No sooner was he discharged from the hospital he decided to convert his 30,000 square feet office area at Shreyam complex in Surat to an 85 beds Covid-19 ward cum facility house with oxygen facility to provide free treatment for the ones who are deprived of the expensive treatment in private hospitals this Coronavirus crisis. For a well-equipped human resource and nursing staffs, he signed an agreement with the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) with 15 ICU beds in Surat’s Adjan area.

The entire hospital cum COVID centre was constructed by this Tuesday i.e 21st July and was named after his grand-daughter Hiba following by the inspection done by SMC health department authorities as reported by the Indian Express.

The hospital was examined by Surat Municipal Commissioner BN Pani and SMC Deputy Health Commissioner Dr Ashish Naik who later approved the proposal.

“We have seen the premises and found it appropriate. In the next few days, the hospital will start functioning with patients referred from New Civil hospitals and SMIMER hospital,” said Dr Naik in an interview with The Indian Express

Shaikh told the Indian Express about his hardships when he was young and how he managed everything without much facilities. Coming from a middle-class family has made him realize that there are lot of people who despite having the best facilities in the city are left behind due to the heavy costs that are incurred and Coronavirus pandemic is something where there is not hidden a fact that people who are most affected are the poor hence he decided to open this hospital. He further adds that this hospital is for everyone who is in need regardless of their caste, creed and religion.

He says that with God’s grace he is now in a position that he could extend his hands to the needy, has a support of all his three sons and aims with Hiba hospital in providing the best possible facilities to the Coronavirus infected patients in Surat.

The best part of the hospital is that it has a separate space for doctors and nurses with a kitchen and a dining area. Shaikh told in an interview that his team is also planning to provide cooks and take care of the food needs of the admitted patients.

People like Shaikh might be few in numbers but leave an exhilarating impact on all of us. He could have just chosen to contribute like a philanthropist to the Covid-19 wards in his city but he himself constructed one to show others that pandemic and crisis shall not be borne only by the one’s who are suffering and the front-liners but by all of us. Even the common individuals can do a lot to better this situation a little because each hand counts and team TSA salutes such inspirational souls.
