Rape has become a trend. It has become a tune that, we have got so accustomed to that it bothers us no longer.  We have not finished off reading one case, that moans and screams from another part of the country arises. Within ten days of the Hathras horrific incident, another attempt was registered from Gurugram and Bulandshar. A 25-year-old woman was gang-raped at the DLF office site in Gurugram.

Chief Swati Maliwal of Delhi Commission For Women (DCW), a statutory body that investigates safety and security issues of women, alleges that the 86-year-old has been attacked and raped on many occasions. The case was reported on 10 September 2020.

It suggests that age doesn’t matter. Either the girl is minor or aged, it lures the male community. They are sexually attacked and if dare to raise the voice, they are beaten to death.

A string of recent horrific crimes against women has shed some light over the report done in 2019 from the National Crime Records Bureau ( NCRB). It shows there is an increment in the horrendous activities against women. Though 2018 wasn’t a peaceful one, the atrociousness was at least 7.3% lesser than in 2019.  The data also reveals five cities name that is sky-high in this crime. The names are listed below:

  1. Delhi – 1,231 incidents
  2. Jaipur – 517 incidents
  3. Mumbai – 394 incidents
  4. Hyderabad – 184 incidents
  5. Indore – 150 incidents

The above-mentioned data just shows the registered number of cases and we know how most of the incidents goes unreported for various reasons.

In reaction to the current case from Baran district, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot of Rajasthan questioned, rather than asking why Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra did not visit Baran in Rajasthan, where two girls were allegedly raped, senior BJP leaders should go to the district themselves to learn the underlying reality.

Rape, Gang rape, Sexual harassment, molestation and domestic violence is already a ghastly and gruesome crime against women.  Nevertheless, it turns repugnant when cops who are believed society’s security started victims succumbed to death by burning all the shreds of evidence in the middle of the night.

The statistics estimate that at every 16 minutes a woman is raped in India.

The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data indicates that the susceptibility of a child or woman to rape has risen by up to 44 per cent in the last ten years.
