After many days of the LG polymers gas leak tragedy “Vizag” that took place in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, the state was jolted by the death of 12 persons and approximately hundreds fell sick. After this, the State government of Andhra Pradesh has been shipping back nearly 13,000 tonnes of styrene gas back to the company’s headquarter in Seoul, South Korea in two consignments; one consistent of 8,000 tonnes of gas and the other consignment consistent of 5,000 tonnes of gas.
The Andhra Pradesh government authorities presented concern to the Ministry of shipping and determined special containers for the chemical to send back to Seoul.
The endured gas in the storage tanks that leaked in the factory has now been converted to 100% polymer.
Apart from that, the government is looking up for plans to shift the hazardous industries far away from the places in cities and towns to avoid similar incidents in the future.
The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has organised a review meeting for the analysis of the condition in the nearly affected areas due to the “Vizag” gas leak on Monday through video conferencing with the officials of industries and factories departments and asked them to organise a safety evaluation of the industries, especially those which are directly involved in the manufacturing and processing of harmful chemicals to make sure that such incidents like the one at LG polymers did not replicate in future.
The CM Jagan Mohan Reddy urged to emphasise to overlook the need for relocation of such hazardous industries and strictly adhered to the safety protocol prescribed by the central government.
The Collector of Visakhapatnam V. Vinay Chand enlightened the chief minister that the hazard at LG Polymers plant had abated as the temperature of the styrene gas had been solidified to the nearly cool temperature of 73 degrees celsius.
The collector for that said, “nearly 13,000 tonnes of gas stored in tanks has been loaded into two vessels labelled consignments and the remaining procedure will be accomplished in about 5 days.
On the contrary, ministers Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao and Botcha Satyanarayana said that the amount of rupees one crore each was paid to the five bereaved families after their legal heirs were finalised and the endured ones would get the atonement in the coming days.
They also mentioned that the sanitisation of the villagers in the neighbourhood of the factory has been almost accomplished.
The chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the officials to credit the Rs. 10,000 amount to the unencumbered bank accounts of the women to each resident of the five affected villages regardless of their age.
He also desired to set up special clinics in the villages with the team of Andhra medical college to help the underprivileged.
