It’s World No Tobacco Day today, which solely focuses on spreading awareness among its consumers to say no to tobacco. We have seen a huge number of people from our childhood suffering from the addiction of it. In the beginning, everyone starts for fun but later on, it starts killing them. Why murder yourself slowly when the only point is to live peacefully! Let us educate people all the harms of tobacco to health.

The Member States of the World Health Organization created World No Tobacco Day in 1987 to draw global attention to the tobacco epidemic and the preventable death and disease it causes. In 1987, the World Health Assembly passed Resolution WHA40.38, calling for 7 April 1988 to be a “world no-smoking day.” In 1988, Resolution WHA42.19 was passed, calling for the celebration of World No Tobacco Day, every year on 31 May.

All types of tobacco are harmful, and there is no safe level of exposure to tobacco. Cigarette smoking is the most common form of tobacco use worldwide. Other tobacco products include water pipe tobacco, various smokeless tobacco products, cigars, cigarillos, roll-your-own tobacco, pipe tobacco, and bidis.
Smokeless tobaccos use is highly addictive and damaging to health. It contains many cancer-causing toxins and its use increases the risk of cancers of the head, neck, throat, esophagus, and oral cavity (including cancer of the mouth, tongue, lip, and gums) as well as various dental diseases.

Tobacco is a major cause for non-communicable diseases like cardiovascular disease, cancer, respiratory disease, and diabetes which put people with these conditions at higher risk for developing severe illness when affected by COVID-19.

Nearly millions of people are affected each year due to the consumption of tobacco. Let us spread awareness and try eliminating tobacco from our lives and see how healthy we can be. Let’s celebrate every day as World No Tobacco Day and take a pledge to quit smoking and create a tobacco-free world.
