The students of class 12th will get to know about the fate of their board exams which were suspended in mid-march due to Coronavirus pandemic, on Thursday. The Central Board of Secondary Education will inform the supreme court about their stance on the pending exams and the court will decide by the senior officials at the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
SC heard a plea for the cancellation of examinations today, CBSE counsel in the ongoing discussions informed the SC that they will announce their decision on June 25 regarding the examination status.
The parents of students are complaining that the board has cancelled the examinations of class 10 and 12 for 250 schools situated abroad, so what is the problem with doing that in India?
Instead of holding examinations, CBSE will likely consider marks from internal assessment or average marks from the completed papers.
The examinations were rescheduled in the first two weeks of July, with centres of examinations being increased from 3,000 to over 13,000 for minimum travelling and maximum social distancing.
“In March, we had thought July would be a safe time to hold exams. But the situation has only gotten worse, and it is changing every day,” said a senior Ministry official, while suggesting that there are low chances of further postponement of examinations because of so much uncertainty of the pandemic.
The HRD ministry is consulting the National Test Agency, University Grants Commission, and the All India Council for Technical Education. It is hesitant to cancel examinations because of the fall-out of NEET-JEE entrance examinations, which are conducted for the admission in engineering and medical courses.
Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), has already declared that it depends on the student to appear for the exams or to be marked by based on internal assessment.
It came as a response for the petition filed in the Bombay High Court, by the parents for the cancellation of exams.
The examinations should be cancelled soon without delaying much and marks should be given based on internal assessment. Major entrance exams should be carried out online. All these decisions should be taken as soon as possible as delaying them will only increase student’s worries.
