“I want justice for my husband’s murder, please help in getting it delivered.” – screams Meenakshi Gupta, the wife of the deceased, in utter pain and anguish. The entire police administration of Uttar Pradesh seems to have been jolted down when came into the limelight for the high-voltage murder case of a thirty-six-year-old Kanpur-based businessman, Manish Gupta. The alleged murder has reportedly been committed by six policemen who were on their spree to raid the hotel on the night of September 27 where stayed Manish Gupta along with his two business associates, in Gorakhpur. It has been reported that the deceased was badly thrashed in the hands of six cops, which ultimately led to the said person’s instant death.
“…he received a severe head injury by falling on the floor, which caused his death.” – say the alleged convicts in their defence, but these statements are extremely hard to digest given what the actual witnesses have to say, who happen to be the deceased’s, business associates. Hardeep Singh Chauhan, who was present at the very site told the authorities that the policemen had taken their nameplates off the uniform, “they seemed drunk”, he added. Moreover, Chauhan remembers how the alleged convicts had dragged the victim out of the hotel while his face was bleeding profusely.
“I am deeply saddened by the police statements” – says Mrs. Gupta who is extremely disappointed in the cops and finds it difficult that such senior police officers could commit something this grave. According to her, the statements pronounced by the convicted policemen are nothing but mere rhetorical excuses, while the case is crystal clear.
Awakened by the aforementioned controversial demise of Manish Gupta, Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister along with many other political stalwarts met and empathized with the deceased’s family. Meenakshi Gupta, having met CM Yogi, has pleaded to investigate the matter.
Moreover, she also has requested a CBI inquiry into her husband’s murder.
Understanding the graveness of the happening, the Uttar Pradesh government has recommended a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to look into the details of the Kanpur businessmen’s alleged murder.
Since the matter took place in the Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh, six individual FIRs have been launched against Ramgarhtal police station’s Inspector Jagat Narayan Singh, Phalmandi police post-in-charge Sub-Inspector (SI) Akshay Mishra, and SI Vijay Yadav, including the six convicts. In addition to this, the convicted policemen have been suspended from their respective portfolios.
It has been ordered by CM Yogi Adityanath that the murder case shall be transferred from Gorakhpur to Kanpur, and in the due course of the transfer, a Special Investigative Team (SIT) has been directed to be set up in Kanpur to look into the matter till the case is transferred in the hands of CBI.
In addition to this, the Chief Minister has proposed to appoint Meenakshi Gupta, the deceased’s wife as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Kanpur development authority, as a means to secure the family’s economic stability. A compensation of forty lakhs has also been promised by the state authorities.
With the aforementioned developments, Mrs. Gupta is quite satisfied, but due to valid apprehensions, she has requested the authorities for a CBI probe as soon as possible. “CM Yogi has taken a swift decision like an elder brother but the attitude of Gorakhpur police and local administration is questionable, so I can’t trust them.” – states the deceased’s wife.
