Coronavirus Vaccine AMU: COVID-19 vaccine trials at AMU medical college from Nov 14

There will be a sequence of large-scale clinical trials held at JNMC, AMU, aimed at evaluating both the safety and the efficiency of the Covid-19 vaccine study led by the Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech. An official release said, the trials will begin from Nov. 14 and continue till the end of the January.

AMU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor stated that, AMU has received the confirmation to begin the clinical trials from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and JNMC has enhanced its preparations for the same. He tweeted,

He further appealed, “By volunteering for the trial, you’ll not just get a chance to participate in groundbreaking research but also contribute to developing better cure and treatment options.” People irrespective of their backgrounds are invited to be a part of the solution and help end this pandemic.”

Prof Shahid Ali Siddiqui, principal of JNMC said, “An ethical committee comprising doctors, social workers and lawyers has already been constituted to take care of the trials.”

The clinical trials will be in different phases, the earlier trials will look for the production of antibodies against the virus, while the late-phase will evaluate whether the vaccine further prevents people from getting sick.
These trials will affirm that the vaccine works and is safe. The volunteers who will appear for the trails at JNMC will be provided with detailed information of the vaccine.
