Wedding ceremonies serve as a unifying force that keeps all Bengali communities together, no matter how conventional or conservative they are. This procedure is known as “Saptapadi,” and it involves Yami Gautam being seated on a “Piri” and being spun seven times around the groom. It is thought to establish the union of two souls with the promise of eternal happiness.

The sun bottle in the majestic marble edifice of Victoria Memorial in glorious tones of crimson is an essential part of romance in Kolkata. In the city of Joy, holding hands and gazing at the magnificent Howrah Bridge while enjoying the fresh breeze seems like magic. Shyam and Rosie’s nuptial rites were performed in Dakshinswar’s frightened Kali temple, which is located on the Hooghly River’s eastern bank.

Janhvi played the role of Parthavi, a young lady who eloped with her sweetheart. The setting is made much more beautiful by the breathtaking vista of the Princep Ghat in the background and Janhvi dressed like a Bengali bride in red Banarsi. The pleasant chirping of birds, the ruffling of leaves, and the picturesque riverbank make Kolkata a romantic dream.

6. The Namesake

The film, which is based on a Jhumpa Lahiri novel, captures the essence of Kolkata’s vibrant culture. Ashima and Ashoke’s wedding scene gave us the much-needed essence of “Bangaliyana: A Bengali bride is complete when she is dressed in traditional red banarasi with modest designs on the face and a Rajnigandha garland around the neck.

“Ebhabei golpo hok, Amader rupkothar,” as the song goes, Bengali weddings are nothing short of a fairy tale that goes beyond love and lifetime promises. It’s more than just the coming together of two spirits. During “sindoor daan,” the groom places “sindoor” on his bride’s hair parting, thus solemnising their sacramental union and making her his life partner.

8. Barfi

A bittersweet love story set in Kolkata between Barfi and Jhilmil. With its tramlines, yellow cabs, busy highways, and the stunning Victoria Memorial as a backdrop, the city was a riot of colour. Their marriage rites were performed according to Bengali culture, including rites and rituals. Women are also portrayed giving “Uludgavni,” a ceremony thought to drive away all negativity and provide auspiciousness.
