The hue and cry of the Fitness industry amongst has created a series of questions that the fitness industry which was once prospering had crumbled down. Data and surveys showed gym chains had been under tremendous losses, ahead. Besides pandemic affected not only trainers but owners on whom the employment of the whole fitness cult was dependent. It’s been more than months for the gym to start and to generate revenue. To this, gym owners feel handicapped that their business had suffered a lot. Pravesh Gaur who owns a fast fit chain of gyms reported in Delhi and Faridabad reported Economic Times that, “we are looking at a loss to 20-30 per cent of annual sales as in Marchso we are providing lots of online offers for customers to generate revenue. We have no other option to send staff on unpaid leave.” Also, fitness photographer Varun Tyagi reported ET to look for other employment due to lockdown.
“The last three or four reps is what makes muscles grow. This areas of
pain divides a champion from someone who is not a champion.”
– Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mr Olympia.
However, it seems losses have subdued the business strategies but there has been hope. Moreover, the crumbled status of fitness industries showed fewer hopes more worries but we found a ray of slight possibility during an interview with, Vinay Valmiki who is a National field Hockey player, actor simultaneously founder, and ambassador of Evolve India. He reported to The Second Angle, “Maintaining good health is the most important thing, no matter if you go to a gym or you do it at home”. He supported the idea and appealed to people to post-workout Videos on social media amidst lockdown because he feels people should do it for inspiration for others. Besides, he added, “if you watch news channels these days they are literally scaring people that corona will finish you and stuff like that instead of encouraging people to maintain a healthy and happy and life”. Nevertheless, Vinay optimistically suggested affordable equipment like rope and said, “you don’t need to have much space other than that one can have a resistance or hand band at home for workout freaks.”
On the other side, the economic lookout of the fitness industry is described by Pranay Jain who is not only an entrepreneur but owns a Nutrition Company, Body First, how the losses are incurred in the freelance industry. He answered all curiosity questions where he reported unasked questions by many fitness locators, “shutdown not just affected those directly involved but people like us, for example, we were giving our products for photoshoots, and blogs were given outside, video making and many more. Now, people working in the company have understood that even One Rupee saving is earned. So yes freelance businesses must have definitely affected.” He also acknowledged the side effects with sheer determination by saying, “I will not say that the industry crumbles. I always see glass half full. Gym members have already paid their memberships, to retain them for future, shift your entire gym to zoom, take classes on these platforms and make them feel that you are there for them. Why wouldn’t they want to renew when you went out of the way and helped them even in these trying times”. He suggested, “I myself take classes online for free (this is out of passion) to keep people engaged. Physical exercise for me is the best feeling. It’s freeing”. His thorough constructivism outweighed the negativity and said, “So the industry isn’t crumbling, we actually have seen a surge in our immunity products, customers are calling us and asking us for dumbbells, resistance bands etc. So if there are gym owners out there who feel lost, please connect to me, I am sure we all can work together for good.” Consequently, given the current situations trainers do not have the luxury to go to gyms where they both advised online sessions where Pranay Jain suggested a zoom plan for many people on board he also advised on a monetary factor which reduces the tension for trainers and customers, he said, “Even if a trainer charges Rs. 50 for an hour class, it’s Rs. 5000/hour if you manage to pull in 100 people.
Even you get 100 customers in the entire day, you get Rs. 5000 per day which is Rs. 1.5 lakhs/month. We are looking for gym trainers who will get their customers and we can work together. You don’t have to spend anything. We share. Henceforth, Vinay Valmiki preferred to take measures in the corona and to sanitize and advised people to have the patience to get things normal by saying, “there is a team behind it which is looking into bringing things to normal we should have faith in Them”. The thorough initiatives of this crisis did not leave us hopeless but hopeful too. Yes, many will ponder why things can’t be done soon but this industry will thrive and flourish by the positive attributes kept intact throughout the chaos.
