The Ministry of Earth Sciences launched a mobile application called ‘Mausam’ for India Meteorological Department (IMD) which will help users to track weather updates and forecast as well as warning services of the government. Besides this users can also access the radar images. The application has features like current weather, city forecast and current temperature.
The Union Ministry of Earth Sciences said that “This mobile app is dedicated to the general public and designed to communicate the weather information and forecast in a lucid manner without technical jargons.”

‘Mausam’ will provide the weather forecast for nearly 450 Indian cities which will be updated 8 times a day. The application is available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
This mobile application has been designed and developed jointly by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT).
The mobile application ‘Mausam’ provides many features to the users which are discussed below:
City Forecast – It will provide a 7-day forecast of weather conditions of around 450 cities in India.
Current Weather – ‘Mausam’ app also tells us about the current temperature, wind speed, humidity and wind direction for 200 cities which is updated 8 times a day. Apart from this, it also provides the timings of sunrise, sunset, moonrise and moonset.
Radar Images – The radar images updated in every 10 minutes.
Warnings – To warn citizens about any approaching dangerous weather it alerts twice a day to all districts in colour codes (Red, Orange and Yellow). Here, Red colour indicates the most severe category urging authorities to take actions, Orange colour prompts authorities and public to be alert whereas Yellow colour prompts authorities and public to keep themselves updated.
Nowcast – It issues three-hourly warnings for local weather phenomena and their intensity for about 800 stations and districts.
