Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday hit out the Yogi Adityanath directed Uttar Pradesh Government saying she would not be discouraged by attempts to harass her for raising issues related to the common man. Without mentioning any Name Priyanka said she would continue to give a voice to people’s concerns unlike some leaders in Uttar Pradesh who were acting as a “spokesperson of the ruling BJP”.
She said in a tweet, “As a public servant, my duty towards the people of Uttar Pradesh is to bring the truth to the lead. My duty is not to propagate the government’s propaganda. UP government is wasting its time in trying to frighten me. Take whatever action you want to, I will keep highlighting the truth. I am the granddaughter of Indira Gandhi not an undeclared spokesperson of the BJP like some leaders”.
According to reports, her statement has come a day after the UP State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has issued a notice to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for her comment on a shelter home in Kanpur. On June 21, she had posted on FB and claimed that 57 girls tested positive for coronavirus at the state-run child shelter home in Kanpur, with two girls being found pregnant, including one HIV positive. Referring to other similar incidents, one linked with Muzaffarpur shelter home case in Bihar, where cases of alleged sexual abuse were reported, she said that facts were being suppressed in the name of investigation at such Government facilities.
Indicating to Priyanka Gandhi’s Facebook post, chairperson of UPSCPCR Vishesh Gupta, told reporters that her post violated the provision of National Child Rights Protection Act linking the Kanpur incident to past cases in Muzaffarpur and Deoria shelter homes were misleading and baseless. It also appears to be a trick to hurt the self-respect of girls in protection homes.
Taking Suo moto cognizance of the FB post under section 13 (J) of National Child Rights Protection Act, the chairperson said, ” The comment violated section 74 of Juvenile Justice Act that prohibits disclosure of Identity of children and Section 23 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012, which deals with reporting or commenting about children in any form of media. Accordingly, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra must issue a clarification on her post within three days or face action.”
