India is expected to cross the 100 crore Vaccination mark anytime now. More than 99 crores of vaccines have been administered in India as of now but October witnessed a dip in the pace of Vaccination in comparison to earlier months.
Last week, the Union Minister of Health and Family welfare said that we are nearing the 100 crore vaccine mark soon and it has successfully crossed the 99 crore mark. He also announced that special announcements will be made in aeroplanes, railway stations, ships, metro, etc at the moment when India crosses the prestigious 100 crore mark.
While we are writing this article, India has crossed the 99 crore vaccine doses target. However, the speed of the Vaccination drive has registered a dip recently. On 15 October, India administered just 8 lakh vaccine doses in a day. This figure is the lowest since March 3 which can be a cause of concern.
The number of people who have received the first dose of Vaccination stands at 70.11 crore which is a decent number. Despite that, the number of people who have received the second dose of vaccine is still 29 crore and that needs to be improved. So, more than half of the people are left to take the second dose which is a concerning number.
Ramesh Bhushan, the secretary of MOHFW also highlighted this issue in a virtual conference. He shared this at a virtual conference with health secretaries and mission directors of national health missions in states and Union Territories (UTs). He said that it is a concerning issue that a high number of people have not received a second dose of the covid-19 vaccine. He asked the state and union territory authorities to look into the matter and try to improve it.
He even said that the Central government can even give extra vaccine doses to states and the union Territories for executing the task. Despite the barriers of vaccine hesitancy and dense population the citizens and government have worked hard to achieve this feat particularly the Healthcare workers who have travelled to the farthest corners of the country. The covid-19 vaccine is the most effective way to protect against the covid-19. In India, the population above 18 is eligible for Vaccination. While 2 vaccines for children below 18 have been approved for emergency use by the GOI.
