The Petroleum Institute was founded as a premier worldwide educational and research institution for the oil and gas business eleven years later. The Petroleum Institute, which is funded by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and its foreign partners, graduated its first class of engineers in summer 2006 and welcomed its first female students in the fall of the same year.
By Presidential order in 2007, the Khalifa University of Science, Technology, and Research (KUSTAR) were formed to provide a larger choice of engineering programs to the country’s aspiring engineers. In the same year, KUSTAR purchased Etisalat University College. In 2007, the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, the region’s first research-intensive, graduate-level institution concentrating on innovative energy and sustainable technologies, was created by Presidential order.
His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, issued a decree in 2017 merging KUSTAR, Masdar Institute, and Petroleum Institute into the Khalifa University of Science and Technology.
Khalifa University has grown into a complete research-intensive institution with three colleges, three research institutes, 18 research centers, and 17 departments encompassing a wide spectrum of science, engineering, and medicine disciplines. It will adapt to the UAE’s quickly changing national goals and priorities, nurturing the innovative environment essential for the country’s planned knowledge economy development.
