Menstruation is still a taboo in our country. One of the reason is the Religion and culture. Many women consider their body unclean/impure during those days of the month. They are prohibited from going to the temple, mosque, gurudwara etc some are not even allowed to touch the pickles. But in the end, we need to believe the fact that the menstrual cycle is a natural process intrinsically linked with a women’s body.

In Meghalaya, James PK Sangma, state Cabinet Minister of Home, District Council Affair, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affair told PTI, “The amendment was made after the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment had written to the state government to incorporate to Model Factories Rules regarding the provisions of Sanitary Napkin for the women workers under the Factories Act,1948 and also incorporate act regarding the PPE for all workers.”

The amendment clearly states that the sanitary napkin of adequate quantities and conforming shall be provided and maintained in women’s toilet daily.

In 2018, the Haryana government launched a scheme under which sanitary napkin packet prized at Re1 will be provided to girl students at government schools.

These schemes are surely going to help some people but still, the majority of the population will be lack behind in Menstrual Hygiene. The government should take a required major to spread awareness among the people.
