Are you having a hard time sleeping? Do you often deal with insomnia, which makes it challenging to get the amount of sleep your body needs? While there are sleep aids and medications to consider, it’s always best to get started with natural remedies. Here are a few things you can try:

Table of Contents
  • Corrective Devices
  • Melatonin Supplements
  • Valerian Root
  • Natural Teas
  • Movement
  • In Conclusion

Corrective Devices

For some people, their sleep is interrupted due to sleep apnea. When someone has sleep apnea, it may be nearly impossible for them to get good sleep without some help from doctors. Your medical provider will help guide you in choosing the best option for you, whether that’s a herbst sleep appliance or a CPAP.

Some treatment options may feel difficult to sleep with, while others are a little more comfortable. Talk to your doctor about what feels most comfortable for you so that you can sleep better, despite your sleep apnea. Your health insurance could cover these devices.

Melatonin Supplements

For those with mild sleep interruptions or insomnia, you may discover melatonin supplements to be helpful. They provide you with just the right amount of support to help you get to sleep without being as strong and invasive as sleep medication.

Make sure you do your research before choosing a supplement so that you can be confident that it’s as natural as it’s claimed to be. Melatonin can come in different shapes and forms, from gummies to tea to pills, making it easy for you to choose the best option for your sleep needs. A lot of people like drinking tea as a nightly routine for a calming and soothing experience.

Valerian Root

Another natural remedy in the form of supplements, valerian root, is reported to aid in sleep and can help reduce anxiety. While not the ideal supplement for women who are nursing or pregnant, for anyone who wants to try to reduce their insomnia, it can be a good option to try. Keep in mind that there isn’t a lot of information out there on its long-term effects. Consult your doctor before taking valerian root supplements.

Natural Teas

For those with mild sleep issues, tea can help. Valerian root is a common ingredient in sleepy time teas, while chamomile is a more commonly used option that, while not great for intense insomnia, can certainly calm you down and help you start to relax for bedtime.

Lavender tea has also been said to help with sleep problems, although, with most of the teas sold at the supermarket, you may want to talk to your doctor about the teas that would be best for you. If you’re on any medication, make sure you take care of anything that has extra substances in it, as some medications may interact with ingredients in your tea.

Movement

Natural Remedies for Insomnia and Sleep Troubles

While this isn’t something you take, it’s something that can help you get better sleep. Movement can help your body get tired and calm any stress or tension that may be buzzing around in your body. Whether this is a long walk at the end of the day or an early morning run, exercise in any form can be hugely beneficial for helping you sleep better at night.

Be careful about how late you get your exercise, as that could have the opposite effect by boosting your energy. Movement is as natural as it gets, and while it doesn’t always help when you have serious insomnia, it can be useful in helping you relax more at the end of your daily routine.

In Conclusion

If you are having a hard time sleeping, whether due to stressful situations or because your body is simply having a hard time allowing you to drift off, these natural remedies and tips above can help you out. While some people will need to use sleep medication to sleep, this isn’t always the case, and these sleep aids and remedies can be useful.
