Hasin Jahan, a model and the estranged wife of cricketer Mohammad Shami, mentioned that she started receiving the threats after posting congratulatory messages about the Ram temple bhoomi pujan ceremony on her social media handles.
Jahan had posted congratulatory messages on her social media handles, following which she received several threats for rape.
Her Instagram post read: “Congratulating all the Hindus for the Bhoomi Puja of Ram Mandir in Ayodha.”

On seeing this, a user named Hasib Khan verbally abused her and then threatened to rape her. Many even threatened to murder her.

Hasin said, “On August 5, Ram Mandir was rebuilt and therefore I congratulated all of my Hindu brothers and sisters on social media. But then some mean-minded Muslims commented on my post. They have given rape threats and even murder threats.”
She has lodged a complaint at the Lal Bazar Police Station under the cybercrime department. She said, “I have attached the screenshots of the complaint registered and I want these people to be punished.”
“This is very much unfortunate that I have been continuously harassed at abused by certain mean-minded people after I wished our Hindu brothers and sisters for the erection of the Ram mandir Ayodhya on August 5, 2020,” her complaint stated.
“Same people are continuously threatening me on raping and molesting also. In this situation, I am feeling helpless and worried about my daughter’s future also. This continuous attack through social media like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter make me jeopardised, please help me as I am feeling in secured every moment. If this continues I will be mentally depressed and dejected,” she said.
“I will be highly obliged if you kindly take immediate action. I am feeling highly insecure as I live alone with my daughters. Now every second has become a nightmare for me,” Jahan added.
No arrests have been made in connection to the case yet.
However, the question remains the same: are women safe in India?? Don’t they even have the choice and right to post something of their wish and choice?
A famous celebrity has to go through this. Imagine the sort of garbage other girl’s inbox must be filled with.
Cybercrime and harassment are the new normal for the country and there should be some strict action against it for the safety of all masses.
