Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, India’s leading carrier, unveiled JioSpaceFiber, the nation’s first satellite-driven gigabit broadband service, at the India Mobile Congress. This groundbreaking satellite broadband initiative aims to bring high-speed internet to previously underserved areas. Demonstrating its extensive reach, Jio connected remote locations in Gujarat, Chattisgarh, Odisha, and Assam.
Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio, highlighted JioSpaceFiber’s mission to connect millions, enabling them to fully participate in the digital society. The service offers gigabit-level access to essential online services in government, education, health, and entertainment.
To bolster Jio True5G’s availability in remote regions, the satellite network will also enhance mobile backhaul capacity. Partnering with SES and leveraging medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology, Jio gains access to SES’s O3b and O3b mPOWER satellites, ensuring reliable and scalable broadband across India.

John-Paul Hemingway, Chief Strategy Officer at SES, expressed their commitment to supporting India’s Digital India initiative. Jio’s existing broadband services, including JioFiber and JioAirFiber, already cater to over 450 million users, providing fast, reliable, and low-latency internet and entertainment services nationwide.
During the announcement, Ambani shared Jio’s monumental contribution to 5G infrastructure, deploying a 5G cell every 10 seconds across all 22 circles of India. He emphasized Jio’s role in providing 85% of the country’s overall 5G capacity and achieving one of the world’s fastest 5G internet speeds. Ambani attributed this success to Jio’s 100% in-house 5G stack, developed entirely by Indian talent.
With Jio’s comprehensive 5G infrastructure, including services like JioFiber and JioAirFiber, Ambani asserted India’s position as the broadband capital of the world, with over 125 million 5G users. The initiative reflects Jio’s commitment to digital transformation and connectivity for all corners of the nation.
