A resident of Kashimira locality in Maharashtra’s Thane has been booked for refusing to take delivery from a Muslim person.
The man has been identified as Gajanan Chaturvedi, 51. Gajanan has been booked under section 295 (A) (Malicious act outraging religious feelings).
Earlier, a complaint was filed by Barkat Patel, an employee with the grocery service Groffers. Patel had recorded the communal remarks on a video that went viral overnight. Patel, in an Indian Express report, had said that he was hurt after the customer refused to take the delivery citing his religion, the reason why he recorded the video, and later showed it to police.
Senior inspector of Police, Sanjay Hajare said that the accused was found at the address where Patel had gone to deliver the goods and the man has also been identified to be the one in the recorded video.
Patel had said that the customers have been treating him with more respect ever since the lockdown has been enforced. He also said that the delivery personnel takes a huge risk while doing their professional duties.
