The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: 10 Unfilled Plot Holes

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has a wacky premise for the most part, but that doesn't excuse some of the unresolved storylines.

Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (CAOS), perhaps the better companion to Riverdale, ended abruptly, shocking its many fans. The witchy show was not only amusing, but it was also significant in terms of representation and feminism.

The creators of CAOS had created story arcs in all four seasons that were meant to be unraveled over a few more episodes, therefore the show’s discontinuation left several plot holes. The fates of several characters, the identities of a few significant players, and some canonical material that contradicted itself in the series finale left fans with numerous unanswered concerns.

Let us have a look at 10 unfilled plot holes that can be expected in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina:

1. Ambrose’s Parents

Sabrina’s cousin appeared frequently during the series, but the production rarely, if ever, explored his backstory. Audiences were told in a few words that he tried to blow up the Vatican, which led to his house imprisonment at the Spellman Mortuary, but no evidence of his familial ties was revealed.

Flashbacks or even a little information regarding Ambrose’s parents and their relationship with Aunts Hilda and Zelda would be expected, but his bond with Sabrina and their familial ties were never fully presented.

2. The Trinket Man

The identity of the Trinket Man was one of the most intriguing aspects of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. He was a charming guy who appeared to be on the good side, but his appearance with the Imp of the Perverse wreaked havoc on Sabrina’s and the gang’s life.

He did, however, wait outside the town limits to assist anyone who might be able to escape Blackwood’s distorted universe by giving them the Stone of Omphalos, which turned out to be Ambrose. With his abilities and generosity, fans believe he could be the False God.

3. Judas And Judith

Many fans were perplexed by the twins, who were born to Constance and Faustus Blackwood. Zelda kept Judith, formerly Leticia, concealed because she was afraid Blackwood would kill her, but he welcomed her with open arms due to her twin birth.

Both Judas and Judith were meant to be unique and gifted, yet they were never more than Blackwood’s obedient servants. They grew up quickly in Scotland, moving from newborns to 15-year-olds in the Temporal Church, worshipping their father, and then vanished.

4. Prudence Disguising Herself As Penelope Blossom

Penelope Blossom, Cheryl’s mother, made a surprise return in season 3 of the series, but not exactly as herself. Prudence had searched far and wide for her father, and this time she employed a glamour spell to modify her look.

In New Orleans, she was mistaken for Penelope and tried to kill Father Blackwood, but the story hole is this: why Penelope? What was Prudence’s link to the older Blossom she decided to impersonate, and when had she met her to be able to take on her disguise?

5. Graduation Age

Sabrina is usually seen in the Academy of Unseen Arts after season one, and she is rarely seen with her human pals at Baxter High. She wasn’t greeted warmly at first because she was half-witch, and the other witches and warlocks didn’t think she’d be able to keep up.

What doesn’t add up is that some of her classmates were said to be hundreds of years old and had been studying at the Academy for decades to become more powerful, whereas Sabrina was only 16 years old and had mastered her skills in less than a year (which makes sense given that she was Lucifer’s daughter), but when do witches graduate from the Academy? Or do they drop out entirely?

6. Salem’s Storyline

Despite being Sabrina’s best friend and playing a crucial role in the comics, Salem didn’t get much screen time in the show. He’d show up in a few episodes here and there, mewing his approval or displeasure to Sabrina and saving her life on a handful of occasions.

In the other reality where he was the genius behind a twisted show about Sabrina, his moment of fame arrived in season 4, and he spoke. There is no mention of him after Sabrina dies, or whether he died with her or lived.

7. Mary Wardwell’s Support For Blackwood

Mary Wardwell’s return to the show was strange after being possessed by Lilith. She had previously been shown to be Sabrina’s favorite teacher, but she later showed herself to be a devout follower of Father Blackwood’s church and a willing participant in his summoning of the Eldritch Terrors to destroy the world.

Because Sabrina’s memory spell didn’t function, she should have recalled Father Blackwood from when she was Lilith, and her motivations for following Blackwood and being such an advocate for his perverted ideas made no sense.

8. Ben Button’s Dual Role

Because Riverdale and CAOS were set in the same universe, there were going to be some crossovers. However, several of these crossings were perplexing from a historical and biological standpoint. On the show, characters like Ben Button were plot holes.

Ben was an odd guy on Riverdale from the start, mixing with Ms. Grundy, Chic, and playing Gryphons & Gargoyles. In this program, he was shown to have committed himself, but he also appears in CAOS, delivering pizza to Lilith. The implication is that she killed and ate him. The question remains: how is it possible for one boy to die twice?

9. Zelda’s Death Vision

This is, without a doubt, the largest plot hole of all. Zelda saw a vision of the future in the nether realm after Faustus stabbed her. Sabrina and Hilda, both in their eighties, were comforting her as she lay dying.

When she awoke, she discovered Hilda had died – something she said couldn’t be because she had seen the future and died before Hilda. In the Cain Pit, Zelda resurrects Hilda, keeping her vision of the future alive. According to this argument, Sabrina should have lived until the end of the series for Zelda’s future vision to be accurate.

10. The Dark Lord’s Fate

What happened to Lucifer after the show’s conclusion? Lilith is shown fighting Lucifer with the Spear of Longinus, which is supposed to kill an eternal entity, but it’s far too simple a method for someone of Lucifer’s strength.

She is shown, though, banishing him to the mortal realm. So, did Lucifer perish, or was he banished to the mortal realm as a permanent punishment? Fans can’t seem to put their finger on it because the writers were a little hazy.
