Delhi police under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) on Tuesday, allegedly booked Umar Khalid, a JNU student along with two other Jamia students, Meeran Haider and Safoora Zargar. They were charged for holding a communal violence in Northeast Delhi.
Haider, a PhD student who is also an RJD youth leader with Zargar, an MPhil student has said to conspire against inciting a communal riot in February in the national capital. Zargar is also a media coordinator in Jamia Coordination Committee while Haider is a member of the committee.
In the FIR, the police claimed that the communal violence was a “premeditated conspiracy” which was planned and plotted by Khalid.
The three have also been booked under sections pertaining to sedition, murder, attempt to murder, promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion and rioting.
Khalid’s actions have always been provocative in nature. Earlier also on the visit of The US President Donald Trump, he allegedly addressed people with his speeches and appealed them to come out on the streets and blocks. The idea behind this was to spread propaganda at an international level about how the minorities in India are being targeted.
