Kumbh Mela comes under UNESCO’s representative list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The Kumbh Mela at Haridwar is a Mela that held every 12 years at Haridwar, India. However this time it is special as it is the first time in 80 years that Kumbh Mela is held at an interval of 11 years.

The total covid 19 cases are sharply increasing in India. Amidst the rising cases, neither the central nor the state govt is concerned about the situation in Kumb. The protocols are not at all complied with or practice by the devotee. At least 1000 cases of covid 19 have been recorded among the people in Kumbh Mela.

Surprisingly chief minister of Uttarakhand Tirath Singh Rawat shared a different opinion. The CM emphasized not to compare the event with the Nizamuddin Markaz. The Muslims and Markaz were under huge criticism last year after the conduct of the Tablighi Jamaat event under which some attendees tested positive for the covid 19. On April 13, T.S Rawat while answering the question of reporter cited few points so that both the religion should not be put under the same page.

As per CM remark, the Tablighi Jamaat met was conducted in a closed space or Kothi whereas the Kumbh Mela is conducted in an open space in the ghats of Ganga indicating the open space venue would ensure social distancing norms. However, the photograph and no of covid cases at the event indicated other signs.

Supporting the superstitions Rawat expressed that since the Kumbh is at the bank of river Ganga so mother Ganga’s blessing is in the flow so there shall no corona. Such an insane remark by sitting CM cannot be taken into account.

Rawat said that even the health of the people is important, the faith and belief of the people cannot be totally ignored. The official from Uttarakhand has recently said that there is no plan to cancel or delay the event.

The Kumbh Mela shall continue till 30th of April. “shahi snan” In Haridwar shall be conducted on 27th of April. Meanwhile, Haridwar has seen 2,167 covid 19 cases in the last few days.

Where are the experts which were expressing their opinion last year during the Tablighi Jamaat event? Where is the politician who was ready to charge Muslims for Murder if any person dies due to an event? Where is the media who were conducting a media trial against the same? This event has cleared the society that though we are Indian we are divided by religion in all respect.
