Cannabis-infused food is becoming even more popular than smoking weed. Legalisation allows the industry to get creative and produce all kinds of ingestible treats. Knowing how to store edibles is essential whether you have homemade brownies or store-bought products.

Food and cannabis have many associations, from causing the munchies to varieties that taste like different fruits or herbs. Strains like Banana Punch seeds directly refer to this relationship in name and flavour.

Like any food, you don’t always intend to consume marijuana products the day you make or buy them. Read on to learn all you need to know about edible cannabis. Discover the best storage methods and keep your treats fresh for as long as possible.

What are marijuana edibles?

A marijuana edible is essentially any food or beverage infused with cannabis. The variety now is astonishing, from brownies and space cakes to gummies and CBD juices.

There are types to suit everyone, from gluten-free to vegan-friendly. Some are rich in THC, and others just contain CBD. Edibles provide a way for people to experience the effects of cannabis without smoking.

Cannabis edibles are also fun for experienced tokers to enhance their high and mix things up. Always know your tolerance and take it slow if you’re eating and smoking weed simultaneously. Ingesting marijuana can produce surprisingly strong effects.

Fortunately, reliable vendors in legal areas offer low to high-dosage products. Mild edibles are becoming especially popular with those trying cannabis for the first time. Weed attracts more people than ever, and even marijuana’s impact on athletic performance is under observation.

Methods for storing edibles properly

The best way to store edibles depends on various factors that apply to keeping any food fresh. The product’s type and general shelf life are significant in terms of longevity.

How to Store Edible Cannabis Properly

Some universal rules apply to keeping all foods fresh, whether for a few days or months.

Here are four excellent methods for storing edibles that ensure maximum longevity for your cannabis treats.

1. Food-grade silicone

Food-grade silicone is an ideal containment material for storing edibles, and many prefer it to plastic.

Silicone containers are highly durable and eco-friendly compared to plastic. The substance is generally non-toxic, and chemicals don’t rub off on your edibles. This method is ideal for short-term storage.

2. Airtight containers

A crucial component of learning how to keep edibles fresh is limiting exposure to oxygen. Whatever the material, your container must be airtight.

Oxygen can spoil some foods within days as it promotes the growth of bacteria on organic matter. Airtight containers keep most edibles fresher for longer.

It’s best to have containers of different sizes to maximize their effectiveness. Ideally, the edibles should have as little oxygen surrounding them as possible.

3. Glass containers

Containers such as mason jars are popular for raw bud and edible cannabis. Much like silicone, glass doesn’t chemically impact food as some plastics do.

If you’re using glass, wrapping edibles in non-transparent parchment paper is essential. Light exposure also speeds up the degradation of organic matter in food. The covering is also crucial for keeping sticky concentrates intact.

4. Freezing and refrigeration

Storing weed in the freezer is the perfect way to keep edibles for a long time. This method is ideal for storing baked goods, cannabutter, or other types that spoil quickly.

When freezing or using a fridge, ensure your product is still in some form of airtight containment. Aside from light and oxygen, moisture is another element that can ruin cannabis products.

It’s essential to stop issues like condensation from reaching your edibles in a fridge or freezer. Water carries bacteria and causes mold.

How long do edibles remain fresh and effective?

There isn’t much conclusive research on the specific storage of cannabis edibles and how long they last. In terms of the food itself, it’s no different from that without weed. The longevity depends on the type and how you keep it.

How to Store Edible Cannabis Properly

Homemade space cake naturally spoils quicker than a hard candy cannabis lollipop with preservatives. Products from a reliable vendor should also come with a sell-by date.

There’s no conclusive answer regarding THC or CBD degradation over time within an edible. Enough anecdotal evidence suggests potency remains for at least several months when frozen.

Products like gummies with preservatives can also keep for months. Generally, THC and CBD should be active if the food containing cannabis is still in good condition.

Long live edibles

Whether it’s homemade brownies or store-bought gummies, marijuana treats are a delicious way to have some fun.

Now you know how to store edibles, why not start picking up some recipes and turn on the oven? Begin a new hobby or become a marijuana master chef.
