On June 7th the world saw the highest number of reported cases, 136,000 in a single day increasing the total tally to 7 million. Shortly afterward WHO issued a warning in lieu of this advancement and held an online briefing where they warned the nations on the escalation of the virus.

In the briefing WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus mentioned that

  1. More than 100,000 cases have been reported daily for the last five days. The rapid increasing numbers are a sign that the pandemic is worsening.

  2. For several days the cases reported in America have been more than the world’s put together. The maximum concentration of cases, nearly 75%  are from America and South Asia.

  3. The Director also expresses concern for the Midetteranian, South Asia, and Africa even though their numbers are smaller in comparison.

  4. Europe’s numbers are declining each day and while on 7th June the world saw its highest peak Europe celebrated its lowest since the 22nd March.

  5. When questioned about the origin of the virus with regard to  China WHO’s top emergency expert, Dr. Mike Ryan dismissed the query stating that we need to focus on the issue at hand and prevent second peaks.

  6. Even though it has been 10 days since Trump announced the termination of the USA’s relationship with WHO, they have not been updated on any new change. The organisation relies on experts in the health sector from the USA and according to the speaker they will continue to do so until instructed otherwise.

The virus has taken over 400,00 casualties in the past six months. Even with all hands on deck, we do not have a vaccine to stop this war. Nations have slowly started accepting the virus as their reality, dismissing it saying “it’s just the flu” and walking it off by slowly lifting the lockdowns and restrictions. This could be taken as a step stemming out of an economic crisis or the nations losing seriousness on this issue.
