We all love food, don’t we? Let’s face it who does not? Eating food is the most salutary thing you can do. Food is life so this is the day for all the foodies out there. 16 October is celebrated as World Food Day. The theme for World Food Day 2020 is “Grow, nourish, sustain. Together. Our actions are our future.”

All the food lovers will relate to this beautiful quote by  George Bernard Shaw

“There is no sincere love than the love of food “.

So, today is one of the most significant days observed across the globe. But, why is it so special? Let’s go back to history on the day of 16 October 1945, when the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nation tried to honour food by celebrating world food day internationally. Regarding World Food Day 2020, the official website of FAO says:

World Food Day is calling for global solidarity to help all populations, and especially the most vulnerable, to recover from the crisis, and to make food systems more resilient and robust so they can withstand increasing volatility and climate shocks, deliver affordable and sustainable healthy diets for all, and decent livelihoods for food system workers. This will require improved social protection schemes and new opportunities offered through digitalization and e-commerce, but also more sustainable agricultural practices that preserve the Earth’s natural resources, our health, and the climate.

World Food Day 2020 will be marked by more than 150 countries arriving together to combat the COVID-19 pandemic which has further strained an already fragile food system intimidating to push millions more into starvation. The simple agenda of celebrating such a day is to acknowledge the people who die because of the scarcity of food.
