In just a span of 7 years, Shawn Mendes has heralded the leading position in the arena of leading pop stars. He was once a social media star earning fame with his song covers shared on Vine.
Soon, he connected the gap between being a social media singer to becoming an actual artist. His debut album Handwritten claimed first place on the Billboard 200.
From being a social media sensation to having a bucket of hit singles– here are the best songs of Shawn Mendes.
1. Stitches
I’m shaking, falling onto my knees

And now that I’m without your kisses
I’ll be needing stitches
Going back in time to his debut album Handwritten, Stitches was the song that kick-started his career in the early days.
Not just the lyrics, but the MV was just as good. Stitches certainly grasped the havoc in the mind of a heartbroken person.
2. Treat You Better
I know I can treat you better than he can
And any girl like you deserves a gentleman
We won’t lie to you, but Shawn Mendes can give us goosebumps. The second on the list must be one of the most famous songs from his second album Illuminate.
The beats, the transition, and the lyrics– everything seems perfect!
3. There’s Nothing Holding Me Back
You take me places that tear up my reputation
Manipulate my decisions
Baby, there’s nothing holdin’ me back
It’s been years and we are still vibing to this song. Whenever we listen to it, it feels just right to take our companion, pack our bags, and go for a trip with crazy and goofy adventures anywhere in the world.
4. Lost in Japan
Do you got plans tonight?
I’m a couple hundred miles from Japan, and I
I was thinkin’ I could fly to your hotel tonight
If you are in a long-distance relationship, you know the endless daydreams of taking the next ticket and flying to your loved one!
The song embodied those similar emotions, but Shawn Mendes actually ended up flying to Japan in the MV– plus, Lost in Japan is upbeat as well.
5. Wonder
I wonder when I cry into my hands
I’m conditioned to feel like it makes me less of a man
As the title itself suggests, the song will make you think of all the little things– the lyrics are extremely meaningful, and Wonder is one of those songs that you crave when you are stressed out after working all day.
6. In My Blood
Sometimes I feel like giving up
But I just can’t
It isn’t in my blood
Who doesn’t have the bad days? Sometimes everything might appear to crumble down and you will be still smiling.
Listening to In My Blood will make you feel as if your pain is shared and there is someone out there who is cheering for you to keep going.
7. Señorita
I love it when you call me señorita
I wish I could pretend I didn’t need ya
This song needs no introduction–the widespread recognition it obtained is an open testimony of the success of Señorita.
On top of that, it was a collaboration between Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes. The ship was already popular among the fans and Señorita proved it right.
It sure broke some hearts but the chemistry between the two artists is worth envying!
8. Mercy
Please have mercy on me
Take it easy on my heart
Even though you don’t mean to hurt me
You keep tearing me apart
Saw your ex with someone else? Your crush got into a relationship? Stuck in a one-sided love?
The unrequited love is the central theme of Mercy. Mercy is for the times where our hearts feel like its breaking again and again even if it’s unintended by the person we love who may or may not love us back.
