A charge sheet has been filed against a college student from West Bengal, who was allegedly radicalised online by the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) by The National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The NIA said that the accused, Tania Parvin, a resident of North 24 Parganas, was assigned by officials of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to open a  fake Facebook profile. Stating further on the intention, NIA reveals that Tania’s motive was to become friends with the Armed Force members in India and later, obtain sensitive information about the country.

“Parvin, 22, was first taken into custody by the West Bengal Police on March 18, 2020. Later, in April the case was transferred to the NIA.” Said the NIA Official in an interview with the media.

As per the sources, Parvin used several Pakistani SIM cards to stay in touch with Pakistani handlers. She was also allotted Indian SIM cards through which she communicated via Facebook and WhatsApp groups. Until now investigation revealed that the accused got radicalised in cyberspace by Pakistan-based cadres of LeT(Lashkar-e-Taiba).

NIA sources had earlier said that the accused, Parvin, was also in touch with Hafiz Saeed, the chief of banned terrorists outfit Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD).

“Tania Parvin gradually became a member of about 70 jihadi groups on social media, which propagated terrorism ideology advocating skewed versions of Islamic Jihad with an aim to further radicalise and engage in influencing Muslim youth. Not only this the accused was also an active member of various Syrian and Palestinian Jihadi social media groups.” The NIA mentioned in their statement.

According to the agency, the LeT team based in Lahore, Pakistan, had introduced the accused(Tania Parvin) to the officials of Pakistan intelligence agency ISI, who tasked her to open a fake Facebook profile and make friends with armed force members in India to get sensitive strategic information about the county.
