On Friday, a group of sanitization workers organised a protest outside Noida authority office against the contract based work and demand for permanent jobs.
According to sources, Six sanitization workers are being arrested for organizing protest again contractual work, after one of their co-workers committed suicide, they were held for violating Section 144 of the CrPC, which bars the assembly of over four people at a place.
A senior official said the authorities have imposed the restrictions keeping in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Police tried to pacify the protestors and later six of them were arrested under IPC Section 151”
The workers mentioned that they are working for over 10 years and more on a contractual basis. They are getting a salary of ₹11,000 per month and no extra benefits from the government. They are demanding the authorities to look into these matters but for three days their grievances are still not addressed.
Many of the protesters who had threatened to convert to Islam if their demands were not met have also been booked by the Sector 20 police.
“Our demands are not only for equal pay but also that contractual sanitation employees should be made to work for one shift instead of two shifts. Good equipment should be provided to improve the sanitation system,” Rajwati told, adding that several workers were given a show-cause notice for participating in the protest and that all of them are living in fear of losing their job. “This is how corona warriors are being treated in Uttar Pradesh,” she said.
With increasing corona cases and contracting GDP, India is not only failing to balance its economy but also failing to provide justice to these poor workers.
